AIR FORCE BOARD FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORDS
IN THE MATTER OF: DOCKET NUMBER: BC-2005-00536
INDEX CODE: 100.03, 100.06
COUNSEL: NONE
HEARING DESIRED: Not Indicated
MANDATORY CASE COMPLETION DATE: 20 Aug 06
_________________________________________________________________
APPLICANT REQUESTS THAT:
Her reenlistment eligibility (RE) code be changed.
_________________________________________________________________
APPLICANT CONTENDS THAT:
She wishes to continue her military career by joining the National Guard.
She was informed by a recruiter that she needed her RE code changed.
In support of her request, applicant provided a personal statement. Her
complete response, with attachment, is at Exhibit A.
_________________________________________________________________
STATEMENT OF FACTS:
Applicant enlisted in the Regular Air Force on 1 Oct 02. She was
progressively promoted to the grade of airman first class, having assumed
that grade effective and with a date of rank of 1 Feb 04.
On 8 May 04, she was hospitalized after a suicide attempt by overdose of
medications. She was subsequently diagnosed with depression and Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder, relating to a sexual assault the year prior. A
Medical Evaluation Board was initiated and while awaiting the results she
was again hospitalized after cutting her neck and wrists in July 2004. A
Physical Evaluation Board determined she was unfit for continued military
service and recommended discharge with severance pay. She was discharged
on 18 Oct 04 and assigned RE code "2Q" which denotes "Personnel medically
retired or discharged." She served 2 years and 18 days on active duty.
_________________________________________________________________
AIR FORCE EVALUATION:
The BCMR Medical Consultant recommends denial. The Medical Consultant
states even if the applicant presently feels well without active symptoms,
her history of her conditions requiring hospitalization is disqualifying
for enlistment and reentry into military service.
The Medical Consultant evaluation is at Exhibit C.

APPLICANT'S REVIEW OF AIR FORCE EVALUATION:
A copy of the Air Force evaluation was forwarded to the applicant on 25 Apr
06 for review and comment within 30 days. As of this date, this office has
received no response.
_________________________________________________________________
THE BOARD CONCLUDES THAT:
1. The applicant has exhausted all remedies provided by existing law or
regulations.
2. The application was timely filed.
3. Insufficient relevant evidence has been presented to demonstrate the
existence of error or injustice. After careful consideration of the
applicant's submission along with the evidence of record, we see no
evidence of an error or injustice that would warrant a change in her RE
code. While it appears she has made a successful adjustment to the
civilian environment, we have seen no evidence that the applicant would now
be more amenable to the demands of military life. Therefore, we agree with
the opinion and recommendation of the Air Force office of primary
responsibility and adopt its rationale as the basis for our conclusion that
the applicant has not been the victim of an error or injustice. In the
absence of evidence to the contrary, we find no compelling basis to
recommend granting the relief sought in this application.
_________________________________________________________________
THE BOARD DETERMINES THAT:
The applicant be notified that the evidence presented did not demonstrate
the existence of material error or injustice; that the application was
denied without a personal appearance; and that the application will only be
reconsidered upon the submission of newly discovered relevant evidence not
considered with this application.
