MEMORANDUM OF CONSIDERATION OF APPLICATION BEFORE THE AFBCMR

Having carefully reviewed this application, we agree with the recommendation of the Air
Force and adopt the rationale expressed as the basis for our decision that the applicant has been
the victim of either an error or an injustice. Therefore, under the authority delegated in AFI 36-
2603, the applicant's records will be corrected as set forth in the accompanying Memorandum for
the Chief of Staff signed by the Executive Director of the Board or his designee.

REQUESTED ACTION. Applicant requests his award of the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.

2. BASIS FOR REQUEST. Applicant separated from Active Duty prior to the paperwork for
this award was completed.

3. FACTS.

a. Applicant served on Active Duty during 11 Aug 86-14 Aug 89; a period of three years and

four days. He received the Air Force Achievement Medal during this period, and all of his En-
listed Performance Reports are “firewalled” (all marked to the right).

b. There is no derogatory information in the applicant’s files.

4. DISCUSSION. Since the applicant separated from the service only four days after the
required three years to become eligible for the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, it is probable that
this award was overlooked in the haste to separate him from the service.

5. RECOMMENDATION.

We recommend approval of the applicant’s request for award of the Air Force Good Conduct

Medal.

FOR THE COMMANDER

MATTHEW J. ARTH, Major, USAF
Chief, Recognition Programs Branch
Promotion, Eval, & Recognition Division
