		IN THE CASE OF:

		BOARD DATE: 11 January 2011

		DOCKET NUMBER: AR20100016445

THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant requests that his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) be corrected to reflect the correct date he entered active duty for training (ADT).

2. The applicant states that his DD Form 214 incorrectly reflects that he entered ADT on 18 August 2007 when, in fact, he entered on 18 April 2007.

3. The applicant provides:

* a two-page letter explaining his application
* a copy of his DD Form 214
* a copy of orders that ordered him to ADT effective 18 April 2007
* a copy of orders transferring him to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, for his advanced individual training on 26 August 2007
* copies of his airline boarding passes
* a copy of an invitation to his parents to attend his basic training graduation
* a copy of his completion certificate for the 7-week American Language Course at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, on 14 June 2007
* a copy of his basic training completion certificate, dated 24 August 2007

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, on 13 March 2007 for a period of 8 years, training as a utility equipment repairer, a Montgomery GI Bill Kicker, a non-prior service enlistment bonus of $14,000.00, a HI-GRAD bonus of $4,000.00, and a non-prior service enlistment bonus of $2,000.00 at shipping.

2. On 18 April 2007, he was ordered to ADT to report to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, on 18 April 2007 and then to Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, on 23 April 2007 for English language training.

3. He completed his training at Lackland Air Force Base and was transferred to Fort Jackson, South Carolina, to undergo basic training on 24 August 2007. He was further transferred to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, for advanced individual training.

4. He completed his training on 20 November 2007 and was honorably released from ADT. His DD Form 214 reflects that he entered active duty this period on 18 August 2007 in block 12a and that he served 6 months and 3 days of active service this period in block 12c.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

1. The applicant's contention that his DD Form 214 incorrectly reflects when he entered active duty for training has been noted and found to have merit. The evidence of record clearly shows he entered active duty for training on 18 April 2007 and that he served until he was released on 20 November 2007. Accordingly, his DD Form 214 should be corrected at this time to reflect that he entered active duty on "2007 04 18" in block 12a.

2. Additionally, the applicant served 7 months and 3 days of active duty instead of the 6 months and 3 days currently reflected. Accordingly, block 12c should be corrected to reflect "0000 07 03."

BOARD VOTE:

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:

The Board determined the evidence presented is sufficient to warrant a recommendation for relief. As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by:

* showing in block 12a of his DD Form 214 that he entered active duty on "2007 04 18"
* showing in block 12c that he completed 7 months and 3 days of active service

However, there is no evidence in his records that show he was awarded MOS 25F or that he was issued a DD Form 214 for this period of service. He then completed 6 months and 10 days when he was ordered to active duty on 1 August 2006 (the DD Form 215 adjusted this date to 28 July 2006) and he was released from active duty on 7 February 2007. It provides a brief, clear-cut record of active duty service at the time of release from active duty, retirement, or discharge.
