		IN THE CASE OF:

		BOARD DATE: 8 January 2013

		DOCKET NUMBER: AR20120011187

THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant requests that his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge) be corrected to show his deployment to Kuwait.

2. The applicant states he deployed to Kuwait from 18 to 27 February 2011 and he desires that deployment be added to his DD Form 214 because it makes him eligible for additional benefits.

3. The applicant provides copies of his DD Form 214, a Readiness and Deployment Checklist, Temporary Duty (TDY) orders to Kuwait, his itinerary, a bank statement for an airline ticket, and a Department of Veterans Affairs printout.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 6 August 2007 for a period of
4 years, training as a signal support systems specialist, and a $14,000 enlistment bonus. He completed his training and was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment (Old Guard) at Fort Meyer, Virginia for his first and only assignment. He was advanced to the rank of corporal on 1 April 2009.

2. The applicant deployed to Kuwait in a TDY status from 17 to 27 February 2011 (11 days) in support of Old Guard Signal Operations. He received an award of the Army Achievement Medal for that deployment.

3. On 7 August 2011, he was honorably released from active duty (REFRAD) due to completion of required service. He had served 4 years of active service and the DD Form 214 issued at the time of his REFRAD shows no foreign service or deployment to Kuwait.

4. Army Regulation 635-5 (Personnel Separations - Separation Documents) prescribes the separation documents prepared for Soldiers upon retirement, discharge, or release from active military service or control of the Army. It establishes standardized policy for the preparation of the DD Form 214. It states that for:

	a. block 12f, enter the total amount of foreign service completed during the period covered by the DD Form 214.

	b. block 18, for an active duty Soldier deployed to a foreign country with his or her unit during their continuous period of active service, enter the statement "SERVICE IN (NAME OF COUNTRY DEPLOYED) FROM (inclusive dates for example, YYYYMMDD - YYYYMMDD)."

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

1. The applicant served in Kuwait from 17 to 27 February 2011, this service equals 11 days. Block 12f of his DD Form 214 should be corrected to show this service.

2. Block 18 (Remarks) of his DD Form 214 should also be corrected to reflect his service in Kuwait from 17 to 27 February 2011.

BOARD VOTE:

* deleting the entry from block 12f of his DD Form 214
* adding the entry “0000 00 11” in block 12f of his DD Form 214
* adding the entry “Service in Kuwait 20110217 to 20110227” to block 18 of his DD Form 214
