IN THE CASE OF:
BOARD DATE: 19 August 2008
DOCKET NUMBER: AR20080011631
THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:
1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).
2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).
THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests, in effect, that Permanent Orders 260-6, Department of the Army (DA), Bravo Detachment, 18th Personnel Services Battalion, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, dated 17 September 2001, be removed from his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF).
2. The applicant states that the permanent orders in question is a duplicate and covers the same period of service covered in a previous order issued to him on 14 February 2001 awarding him the Army Good Conduct Medal (AGCM) (1st Award).
3. The applicant provides copies of Permanent Orders 260-6 and Permanent Orders 045-87, DA, Bravo Detachment, 18th Personnel Services Battalion, dated 17 September 2001 and 14 February 2001, respectively.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant is a staff sergeant/E-6 in the Regular Army.
2. A review of the applicant's OMPF maintained on the Interactive Personnel Electronic Records Management System (iPerms) shows both Permanent Orders 260-6 and Permanent Orders 045-87 awarded the applicant the AGCM (1st award) for the period of 7 January 19986 January 2001.
3. Army Regulation 600-8-104 (Military Personnel Information Management /Records) prescribes the policies and mandated operating tasks for the Military Personnel (MILPER) Information Management/Records Program of the Military Personnel System. It establishes principles of support, standards of service, policies, tasks, rules, and steps governing all work required in the field to support MILPER Information Management/Records. It states, in pertinent part, that once placed in the OMPF, a document becomes a permanent part of that file. The document will not be removed from a fiche or moved to another part of the fiche unless directed by competent authority.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicant requests the removal of Permanent Orders 260-6, dated
17 September 2001 awarding him the AGCM (1st Award) from his OMPF.
2. A review of iPerms shows that both of the above orders are filed in the applicants OMPF. Since both orders cover the same period of service for award of the AGCM, it appears that Permanent Orders 260-6, dated 17 September 2001, is a duplicate.
3. Given the above, the removal of the document in question is directed below.
