APPLICANT REQUESTS: In effect, that the Social Security Account Number (SSAN) that appears in his military records and on his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge) be changed to the correct SSAN.
APPLICANT STATES: In effect, that the SSAN reflected in his military records xxx-xx-4963 is incorrect (hereafter referred to as SSAN #1) and should be change to reflect xxx-xx-5237 (hereafter referred to as SSAN #2), the correct SSAN. In support of his application, the applicant submitted a copy of his SSAN card issued by the Social Security Administration, which reflects SSAN #2 as his SSAN.
EVIDENCE OF RECORD: The applicant's military records show:
He was inducted in the Army of the United States on 24 August 1965 for a period of 2 years. The applicant's DD Form 47 (Record of Induction) and other military documents reflect SSAN #1 as his SSAN.
On 23 August 1967, the applicant was honorably released from active duty and transferred to the United States Army Reserve (USAR) under the provisions of Army Regulation 635-200 by reason of expiration term of service (ETS). His DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge) reflects SSAN #1 as his SSAN.
DISCUSSION: Considering all the evidence, allegations, and information presented by the applicant, together with the evidence of record, applicable law and regulations, it is concluded:
1. In order to justify correction of a military record, the applicant must show to the satisfaction of the Board, or it must otherwise satisfactorily appear, that the record is in error or unjust. The applicant has failed to submit evidence that would satisfy this requirement.
2. The evidence of record confirms that the applicant served in the Army using SSAN #1 during his entire period of service. SSAN #1 is listed in the applicant’s enlistment contract and in the records created upon his enlistment in the Army and maintained throughout his active duty tenure in the Army.
3. For historical purposes, the Army has an interest in maintaining the accuracy of its records. The data and information contained in those records should actually reflect the conditions and circumstances that existed at the time the records were created. In this case, the SSAN recorded in the applicant’s enlistment contract, the military records created upon his enlistment in the Army, and in all documents published during his active duty tenure in the Army consistently reflects SSAN #1.
4. Lacking independent verification from the Social Security Administration that confirms that the SSAN recorded in the applicant’s Army record was in error at the time it was used, the Board finds no error in the existing Army military records and no basis for changing those records.
5. Finally, the applicant is advised that for clarity purposes, this decisional document along with supporting material will be filed in his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). This should serve to prevent any confusion created by the difference between SSAN #1 and SSAN #2.
6. In view of the foregoing, there is no basis for granting the applicant's request.
DETERMINATION: The applicant has failed to submit sufficient relevant evidence to demonstrate the existence of probable error or injustice.

EVIDENCE OF RECORD : The applicant's military records show: This is also the SSAN that was recorded in his Enlisted Qualification Record (DA Form 20), and other service records created during his tenure on active duty. The DD Form 214 issued to him on the date he was separated lists the SSAN he now claims is incorrect in Item 3 (Social Security Number); and Item 5 (Grade, Rate of Rank) contains the entry PFC, which confirms he held this rank on that date.

The is no evidence in the applicant's records to show that he was a tank driver (MOS 131.60). That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by issuing to the individual concerned a DD Form 215 (Correction to DD Form 214) to show in Item 32 on his DD Form 214 of 13 February 1961 that his correct SSAN is "XXX-XX-XX43."
