2. The applicant requests, in effect, correction of his military records to show that he enlisted for a term of 2 years and 21 weeks vice 2 years.

3. He enlisted in the Regular Army on 31 July 1997. His DD Form 4/3 shows that he enlisted for 2 years. Various other documents associated with the enlistment process, signed by the applicant and the enlistment counselor, show the applicant enlisting for 2 years and 17 weeks, 2 years and 19 weeks, and 2 years and 21 weeks.

4. In an advisory opinion to the Board, the Total Army Personnel Command (PERSCOM) advised that the correct term of enlistment should be 2 years and 21 months. PERSCOM recommended approval of the applicant’s request.

CONCLUSIONS :

1. Based on the evidence of record, it appears that it was the applicant’s intent to enlist in the Regular Army for a period of 2 years and 21 weeks. However, an error was made at the time of his enlistment.

2. In view of the foregoing, it would be appropriate and just to correct the applicant’s records as recommended below.

RECOMMENDATION :

That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by amending his enlistment contract to show that he enlisted for 2 years and 21 weeks.
