2. In effect, the applicant requests that the related civilian occupation and the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) number in block 16b of her DD Form 214 (Report of Separation from Active Duty) be changed from 375, Policeman to 375.267-010, Detective.
3. The applicant entered the Army on 4 December 1973, and completed training in the military police branch, military occupational specialty (MOS) 95B, in April 1974 at Fort Gordon, Georgia. On 23 September 1974 she completed an eight week course in military police investigations and was awarded the additional skill identifier of V5, military police investigation. On 4 December 1974 she was promoted to pay grade E-4.
4. On 22 April 1975 the applicant received an honorable discharge under the provisions of Army Regulation 635-200, paragraph 5-37, the expeditious discharge program. She had 1 year, 4 months, and 19 days of service.
5. The DOT provides a listing of civilian source jobs based on codes and titles contained therein. Civilian source jobs are included only for those military occupational specialties which have a direct, or reasonably related, civilian counterpart.
6. Army Regulation 635-5, then in effect, prescribes instructions for the preparation of DD Form 214. Paragraph 2-7x of that regulation states that the related civilian occupation and DOT number will be entered in item 16b of the DD Form 214 and can be taken from the DOT or from Army Regulation 611-201.
7. Army Regulation 611-201 prescribes the military occupational specialty classification structure of the Army.
The military police career management field portion of that regulation lists civilian occupations and the DOT classification related to that field. The related civilian occupation for a police officer is DOT number 375.263-014, that for a detective, DOT number 375.267-010.
CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicants related civilian occupation and DOT number should be Detective, 375.267-010, based on her completion of a military police investigations course. An investigator is synonymous with a detective.
2. In view of the foregoing findings and conclusions, it would be appropriate to correct the applicants records as recommended below.
RECOMMENDATION:
That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by showing that the related civilian occupation and DOT number in block 16b on the applicants
DD Form 214 is Detective, 375.267-010.
