2. The applicant requests correction of her DD Form 214, Release or Discharge from Active Duty, by showing that she was awarded the Southwest Asia Service Medal (SWASM) and the Kuwait Liberation Medal (KLM).
3. She states that she was awarded both medals, but they are not reflected on her DD Form 214.
4. Her military record shows that she was called to active duty from the USAR on 3 January 1991 and served in Southwest Asia from 22 January 1991 to 25 April 1991. She was honorably separated from active duty on 15 May 1991.
5. Her DD Form 214 shows that she was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and marksmanship awards for several different weapons.
6. Her record shows that she served in Southwest Asia in support of Operation Desert Storm during a period that would entitle her to award of both the SWASM and the KLM.
7. Army Regulation 600-8-22 prescribes Department of the Army policy, criteria, and administrative instructions concerning individual military awards. It states, in pertinent part, that the SWASM is awarded to all members of the Armed Forces of the United States serving in Southwest Asia and contiguous waters or airspace thereover, on or after 2 August 1990 30 November 1995.
8. The same regulation prescribes the policy and criteria for award of the KLM. It states, in pertinent part, that the KLM is awarded to all members of the Armed Forces of the United States serving in Southwest Asia and contiguous waters or airspace thereover, in Support of Operation Desert Storm during the period 2 August 1990 to 31 August 1993.
CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicant served during the proper time period and meets the eligibility requirements for award of the SWASM and the KLM.
2. In view of the foregoing, the applicants records should be corrected as recommended below.
RECOMMENDATION:
That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by showing that the individual concerned was awarded the SWASM and the KLM for service in Operation Desert Storm.
