AIR FORCE EVALUATION:
HQ AFPC/DPPPR recommends the application be denied and states, in
part, that after a complete review of the applicant’s official
military record they have verified the applicant served three tours
in the United Kingdom. They were unable to verify the applicant
served in Korea. They indicated that information for applying for
the CWC had been sent to the applicant according to past letters in
the applicant’s official military record.
The Department of the Air Force General Order 60, dated 25 Nov 57
authorized the AFLSA ribbon. It is awarded to all service members
of the U.S. Air Force who complete four years of honorable active
or reserve military service with any branch of the United States
Armed Forces.
The UNSM is awarded to officers and enlisted men of the armed
forces of the United States who participated in the action in Korea
between 27 Jun 50 and 27 Jul 54. They were unable to verify the
applicant served in Korea during the inclusive time period the UNSM
was awarded.
A letter to the applicant dated 12 Jun 02, explaining the
procedures for applying for the CWC was located in the applicant’s
official military record, as a courtesy they have provided the
contact information again: Cold War Recognition, ATTN: TAPC-CWRS-

website http://coldwar.army.mil
They recommended the applicant contact the US Army for issuance of
the CWC.

the applicant for review and response within 30 days. As of this
date, no response has been received by this office (Exhibit D).

THE BOARD CONCLUDES THAT:
1. The applicant has exhausted all remedies provided by existing
law or regulations.
2. The application was not timely filed; however, it is in the
interest of justice to excuse the failure to timely file.
3. Insufficient relevant evidence has been presented to
demonstrate the existence of error or injustice. We took notice of
the applicant's complete submission in judging the merits of the
case; however, we agree with the opinion and recommendation of the
Air Force office of primary responsibility and adopt its rationale
as the basis for our conclusion that the applicant has not been the
victim of an error or injustice. Therefore, in the absence of
evidence to the contrary, we find no compelling basis to recommend
granting the relief sought in this application.
___________________________________________________________________
THE BOARD DETERMINES THAT:
The applicant be notified that the evidence presented did not
demonstrate the existence of material error or injustice; that the
application was denied without a personal appearance; and that the
application will only be reconsidered upon the submission of newly
discovered relevant evidence not considered with this application.
