Having carefully reviewed this application, we agree with the
recommendation of the Air Force office of primary responsibility
and adopt the rationale expressed as the basis for our decision
that the applicant has been the victim of either an error or an
injustice. Therefore, under the authority delegated in AFI
36-2603, the applicant's records will be corrected as set forth in
the accompanying Memorandum for the Chief of Staff signed by the
Executive Director of the Board or his designee.

T: Application for Correction of Military Record
The applicant, while serving in the grade of staff sergeant, was discharged fiom the Air
Force on 17 Feb 98 under the provisions of AFI 36-3208 (Completion of Required Active
Service). He served 10 years, 03 months and 14 days active service.
Requested Action. The applicant is requesting his separation code (SPD) be corrected to
indicated that he was involuntarily discharged.
Facts. Applicant was advised on 3 1 Oct 97 that he was ineligible for reenlistment due to
medical disqualificatiodpending medical evaluation board evaluation (RE Code 4K). The
separation code (SPD) “KE3K” was incorrectly assigned as indicated on his DD Form 214.
Conclusion and Recommendation. Recommend approval. Applicant should have been
assigned SPD Code “JBK’ which would have been the correct separation code for a member who
had been denied reenlistment for medical disqualification (RE Code 4K). Recommend AFBCMR
direct applicant’s record be corrected to indicated he was assigned SPD Code “JBK’ and was
entitled to one-half separation pay at the time of his discharge on 17 Feb 98. He has filed a timely
request.
