The reasons the applicant believes the records to be in error or
unjust and the evidence submitted in support of the appeal are at
Exhibit A.
The relevant facts pertaining to this application, extracted from
the applicant's military records, are contained in the letter
prepared by the appropriate office of the Air Force.
Accordingly, there is no need to recite these facts in this
Record of Proceedings.
The Recognition Programs Branch, AFPC/DPPPRA, reviewed this
application and states that without documentation that reflects
the inclusive dates the applicant was in Saudi Arabia, they
cannot verify his eligibility for the S A S M .
Therefore, they
recommend denial of applicant's request.
A complete copy of the Air Force evaluation is attached at
Exhibit C.
PPLICANT~S RE VIEW OF AIR FORCE EVALU ATION:
A complete copy of the Air Force evaluation was forwarded to the
applicant on 9 March 1998, for review and response. As of this
date, no response has been received by this office.
THE BOARD CONCLUDES THAT:
The applicant has exhausted all remedies provided by existing

Although the applicant has been unable to provide documentation

1994, and 19 January 1995, which indicate he was deployed to
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In addition, the applicant has provided a
copy of this TDY orders assigning him to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Therefore, we recommend his records be corrected to the extent
indicated below.
The pertinent military records of the Department of the Air Force
relating to APPLICANT, be corrected by amending the Certificate
of Release or Discharge f r o m Active Duty, DD Form 214, Item 18,
Remarks, to reflect that he was awarded the Southwest Asia
Service Medal.

This office is responsible for determining Air Force members’ eligibility and entitlement to awards and decorations, and your case was sent to us for review.
On 4 Sep 97, the applicant was requested to provide a copy of his Travel Voucher for TDY to verify that he was in the Area of Responsibility for Operation Desert Shield/Storm (Exhibit C) . Further, DVA stated that the applicant was separated from the Air Force in Apr 91, shortly after his return to Italy from the Persian Gulf, and had no need to save TDY orders or a PERSCO (Personnel Readiness and Deployment Teams) statement (see Exhibit H).
