APPLICANT REQUESTS THAT:
His Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD Form
214) be updated to reflect his completion of small arms training.
APPLICANT CONTENDS THAT:
His DD Form 214 should reflect small arms training. He states he
qualified for flying status for two years.
STATEMENT OF FACTS:
The relevant facts pertaining to this application, extracted from
the applicant's military records, are contained in the letter
prepared by the appropriate office of the Air Force. Accordingly,
there is no need to recite these facts in this Record of
Proceedings.
AIR FORCE EVALUATION:
The Chief , Education and Training Branch, Directorate of
Personnel Programs reviewed this application and states that the
applicant did not provide a copy of the graduation certificate or
a letter of verification from the schoolhouse confirming his
attendance. On 9 December 1997, they sent the applicant a letter
requesting additional documentation and they did not receive a
response.
Therefore they recommend denial of applicant's
request.

APPLICANT'S REVIEW OF AIR FORCE EVALUATION:
A copy of the Air Force evaluation was forwarded to Applicant on
30 March 1 9 9 8 , for review and response. As of this date, no
response has been received by this office.
THE BOARD CONCLUDES THAT:
The applicant has exhausted all remedies provided by existing

law or regulations.
2 . The application was timely filed.
3. Sufficient relevant evidence has been presented to
demonstrate the existence of probable error or injustice. After
reviewing the evidence of record, we are persuaded that the
member did complete small arms training. In this regard, we note
that the applicant did qualify for flying status while on active
duty. In addition, prior to qualifying for flying status, an
individual had to complete small arms training. In view of the
above, we recommend his records be corrected to the extent
indicated below.
THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT:
The pertinent military records of the Department of the Air Force
relating to APPLICANT, be corrected to show that the DD From 214,
Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, issued on
3 September 1991, be amended in Block 14, to reflect completion
of small arms training.

SUBJECT: ADDliCatiOn For Correction of Military Records (DD Form 149)
1. Requested Action: Applicant is requesting his DD Form 21 4 be updated to reflect his
completion of small arms training.
2. Basis for Request: Applicant attached a copy of DD FM 214 and a letter (30 Oct 97) fiom
the Veteran’s Service Office.
3. Discussion: The applicant did not provide a copy of the graduation certificate or a letter
of verification fbm the schoolhouse confirming the member’s attendance. On 9 Dec 97, we
sent the applicant a letter requesting additional documentation. We did not receive a
response to our request.
4. Recommendation: We recommend disapproval of the applicant’s request based on the
applicants failure to respondprovide additional documentation confirming his attendance.

However, the evidence provided has established to our satisfaction that the applicant‘s service during the period in question did warrant recognition by award of the Air Medal and that the recommendation for this award was submitted and lost. RECOMMENDATION. We recommend disapproval of the applicant’s request for award of the Distinguished Flying Cross for 15 Jul45 and the Air Medal for Mar 45-Jul45 and Jun 45-Sep 45.
On 28 Apr 98, the applicant provided additional evidence and requested that the Board reconsider her application (Exhibit F) . The appropriate Air Force offices evaluated applicant's request and provided advisory opinions to the Board recommending the application be denied (Exhibit C). The discharge complies with directives in effect at the time of her discharge.
