THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show in item 14 (Military Education) completion of Airborne School and the Army Mountain Warfare School.
2. The applicant states completion of both Airborne School and Army Mountain Warfare School were not reflected on his DD Form 214.
3. The applicant provides:
* Permanent Orders Number 168-3513, issued by Headquarters, U.S. Maneuver Center of Excellence, Fort Benning, GA, dated 17 June 2010

* Airborne Course Diploma
* Permanent Orders Number 209-12-003, issued by Army Mountain Warfare School, Jericho, VT, dated 27 July 2012
* DA Form 1059 (Service School Academic Evaluation Report)
* Army Mountain Warfare School Certificate of Training
* DD Form 214
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. Orders Number 168-3513, dated 17 June 2010, awarded the applicant the Parachutist Badge.
2. After having had a prior period of honorable enlisted service, the applicant accepted a Reserve commission in the Army National Guard as a second lieutenant on 12 May 2012.
3. A DA Form 1059, dated 27 July 2012, shows he completed the Military Mountaineer Basic Course at the Army Mountain Warfare School on 27 July 2012.
4. On 30 September 2012, he was ordered to active duty for training.
5. On 19 February 2013, the applicant was honorably released from active duty and transferred to his unit. His DD Form 214 shows in item 14 completion of the Military Intelligence Basic Officer Leadership Course.
6. The applicant provides a copy of his Airborne Course Diploma, dated 25 June 2010. He also provides a copy of Permanent Orders Number 209-12-003 which awarded him the skill qualification identifier of "E Military Mountaineer" and the Vermont Army National Guard's Rams Head Device.
7. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) established the standardized policy for preparing and distributing the DD Form 214. It states, in pertinent part:
a. In item 13, to list all awards and decorations for all periods of service in priority sequence as specified by Army Regulation 600-2-22 (Military Awards).
b. In item 14 to list formal in-service (full-time attendance) training courses successfully completed during the period of service covered by the DD Form 214. It further states this information is to assist the Soldier in job placement and counseling; therefore, do not list training courses for combat skills.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicant's request for correction of his DD Form 214 to show his completion of the Airborne School and Army Mountain Warfare School was carefully considered.
2. The applicant completed the Airborne Course in 2010 and he completed the Basic Military Mountaineer Course at the Army Mountain Warfare School on
27 July 2012, both outside the period covered by his DD Form 214.
3. Orders show the applicant was awarded the Parachutist Badge; therefore, he is entitled to correction of his DD Form 214 to show this badge, which will also indicate that he completed the Airborne course.

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:
1. The Board determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to warrant a recommendation for partial relief. As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by adding the Parachutist Badge to his DD Form 214.
2. The Board further determined that the evidence presented is insufficient to warrant a portion of the requested relief. As a result, the Board recommends denial of so much of the application that pertains to adding the Airborne School and Army Mountain Warfare School to his DD Form 214.
