IN THE CASE OF:
BOARD DATE: 23 February 2012
DOCKET NUMBER: AR20110016431
THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:
1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).
2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).
THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests that her award of the Joint Service Commendation Medal (JSCM) 1st Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC) be added to her DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty).
2. The applicant states she did not receive the JSCM 1st OLC until after she was discharged; therefore, it was not added to her DD Form 214.
3. The applicant provides copies of her JSCM 1st OLC Certificate and the order, dated 11 July 2011.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 24 October 2003. She completed her training and reenlisted on 2 July 2007 in the pay grade of E-5 for a period of 4 years, assignment to Fort Sam Houston, Texas and a selective reenlistment bonus. She was promoted to the pay grade of E-6 on 1 February 2008.
2. On 26 July 2011, she was honorably discharged due to completion of required service. She had completed 8 years, 3 months, and 17 days of active service and the DD Form 214 issued at the time of discharge shows she was awarded one award of the JSCM.
3. The documents provided by the applicant show she was awarded the JSCM 1st OLC, on 11 July 2011.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicants contention that her DD Form 214 should be corrected to reflect her award of the JSCM 1st OLC has been considered and appears to have merit.
2. The documents provided by the applicant are sufficient to indicate that she was awarded the JSCM 1st OLC, on 11 July 2011.
3. Accordingly, she is entitled to have the above award added to her DD Form 214 at this time.
BOARD VOTE:
____X____ ____X____ ____X____ GRANT FULL RELIEF
________ ________ ________ GRANT PARTIAL RELIEF
________ ________ ________ GRANT FORMAL HEARING
________ ________ ________ DENY APPLICATION
BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:
1. The Board determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to warrant a recommendation for relief. As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by deleting the JSCM from block 13 of her DD Form 214 and adding the JSCM 1st.
2. The Board wants the applicant and all others to know that the sacrifices she made in service to the United States during the Global War on Terrorism are deeply appreciated. The applicant and all Americans should be justifiably proud of her service in arms.
