IN THE CASE OF:
BOARD DATE: 10 January 2012
DOCKET NUMBER: AR20110013639
THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:
1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).
2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).
THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests correction of item 19b (Nearest Relative (Name and Address Include Zip Code)) of her DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show the spelling of the city as "Pennington" instead of "Pemmington."
2. She states the error was a typing mistake.
3. She provides her DD Form 214.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 12 January 2011 and she was discharged on 10 May 2011. Item 19b of her DD Form 214 shows the city and state of her nearest relative as Pemmington, AL.
2. Her service record contains the following documents which show the city and state of her nearest relative (father):
* The DD Form 93 (Record of Emergency Data) shows Pennington, AL"
* The Standard Form 86 (page 7 of 12) shows "Pennington, AL"
3. An Internet search for the city and state Pemmington, AL, was not found. The Internet site described Pennington as a town in Choctaw County, AL, United States.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicant's contention that item 19b contains a typographical error is acknowledged and determined to have merit.
2. The applicant's DD Form 214 shows the city and state of the mailing address of her nearest relative as Pemmington, AL in item 19b. Documents in her service record show the spelling of the city and state as Pennington, AL and the information obtained from the internet also shows the city and state as Pennington, AL.
3. It appears that an administrative error has occurred in this case regarding the address of the applicant's nearest relative. It would be appropriate to correct item 19b on the applicant's DD Form 214 to show Pennington, AL.
