2. The applicant requests, in effect, that his report of separation (DD Form 214) be corrected to reflect his military education.
3. The applicant states, in effect, that his DD Form 214 does not reflect his military training. In support of his application he submits a copy of his Certificate of Achievement for completion of a 2-week Jumpmaster Course.
4. The applicant’s military records show that he initially enlisted on 14 January 1972 and served until 13 January 1975, when he was honorably released from active duty on the expiration of his term of service (ETS). He again enlisted on 30 June 1975 and remained on active duty as a Vulcan Crewman through a series of continuous reenlistments. He was promoted to the pay grade of E-6 on 27 October 1976.
5. The available records show that he completed a 2-week German Language Course (Headstart) in 1979, a 3-week Basic Airborne Training Course in 1972, a 4-week Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course (BNCOC) in 1976, a 10-week Primary Noncommissioned Officer Course (PNCOC) in 1981 and a 2-week Jumpmaster Course in 1982.
6. On 5 April 1984, he was honorably discharged on his ETS, in the pay grade of E-6. He had served 11 years, 9 months and 6 days of total active service and his DD Form 214 indicates that he had not completed any formal military education.
7. Army Regulation 635-5 serves as the authority for completion of the DD Form 214. It provides, in pertinent part, that block 14 (Military Education) of the DD Form 214 will; be used to record all formal in-service (full-time attendance) training courses (less training courses for combat skills) successfully completed during the period covered by the DD Form 214.
CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicant's DD Form 214 is absent the formal courses he attended and therefore should be corrected accordingly.
2. He attended five courses that are not necessarily combat skills related that should be included on his DD Form 214.
3. In view of the foregoing, the applicant’s records should be corrected as recommended below.
RECOMMENDATION: That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by showing on the DD Form 214 of the individual concerned, under military education, that he attended a 2-week German Language Course (Headstart) in 1979, a 3-week Basic Airborne Training Course in 1972, a 4-week Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course (BNCOC) in 1976, a 10-week Primary Noncommissioned Officer Course (PNCOC) in 1981 and a 2-week Jumpmaster Course in 1982.
