2. The applicant requests, in effect, that item 12c (Net Active Service This Period) of her separation document (DD Form 214) be corrected.
3. The applicant states, in effect, that her total active service should be corrected to read 8 months 28 days. In support of her application, she submits a copy of her enlistment contract (DD Form 4/1).
4. The applicant’s military records show that on 29 September 1986, she enlisted in the United States Army Reserve (USAR) for a period of 8 years. Orders 12-18, dated 20 January 1987, issued by Headquarters, Military Entrance Processing Station, Tampa, Florida, ordered her to active duty, effective 6 March 1987, for the purpose of completing basic combat training and advanced individual training only.
5. The applicant successfully completed training, was awarded military occupational specialty (MOS) 71G (Patient Administration Specialist), and was honorably released from active duty. Orders Number 219-129, dated
9 November 1987, issued by Headquarters, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, directed her release from active duty (REFRAD) for training on 3 December 1987.
6. The DD Form 214, issued to the applicant on the date of her REFRAD confirms that she served on active duty from 6 March 1987 to 3 December 1987, and on the date of her separation she held the rank of specialist/E-4. Item
12c (Net Active Service This Period), while difficult to read, appears to show that she completed only 5 months and 28 days of active military service during the period.
7. Army Regulation 635-5, in effect at the time, prescribed the separation documents that were prepared for individuals upon retirement, discharge, or release from active military service or control of the Army. It established standardized policy for preparing and distributing the DD Form 214. Table 2-1 (DD Form 214 Preparation Instructions) stated that the amount of service during the period of enlistment would be entered in Item 12c (Net Active Service This Period).
CONCLUSIONS:
1. The Board notes the applicant’s contention that the entry shown in item
12c (Net Active Service This Period) of her DD Form 214 is incorrect and it finds this claim has merit.
2. The evidence of record confirms the applicant served on active duty from
6 March 1987 to 3 December 1987, a period of 8 months and 28 days. Thus, the Board concludes it would be appropriate to correct her record to show she completed a total of 8 months and 28 days of active military service for this period of active duty.
3. In view of the foregoing, the applicant’s records should be corrected as recommended below.
RECOMMENDATION:
That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by amending Item 12c (Net Active Service This Period) of DD Form 214, dated
3 December 1987, of the individual concerned by changing the current entry
“00 05 28” to read “00 08 28”; indicating she completed 8 months and 28 days of active military service during the period; and by providing her a corrected separation document that reflects this change.

The applicant states that he entered active duty on 29 October 1997, instead of 4 July 1997, which affects item 12c and item 12d of his DD Form 214, dated 25 August 2001. The applicant’s military records show he enlisted in the US Army Reserve (USAR) on 31 May 1988. The Board notes that by changing 12a (Date Entered AD This Period) of the applicant’s DD Form 214, dated 25 August 2001, to show 29 October 1997, that his net active service this period is incorrect.

The evidence of record shows that he enlisted in the RA on 1 October 1985.
