THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests correction of her DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show she served in area of concentration (AOC) 42B (Human Resources Officer) for 10 years and 4 months instead of 9 years and 9 months.
2. She states, in effect, she served in AOC 42B from 29 May 1999 through 1 September 2009.
3. She provides her DD Form 214.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. On 29 May 1999, she was appointed as a Reserve commissioned officer in the Adjutant General (AG) Corps in the rank of second lieutenant.
2. On 17 December 1999, she successfully completed the AG Officer Basic Course for AOC 42B.
3. Her DD Form 214 for the period 29 May 1999 through 1 September 2009 lists her branch as AG. Item 11 (Primary Specialty) shows "42B 2B HR OFFICER 9 YRS 9 MOS."
4. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) prescribes the separation documents that must be prepared for Soldiers on retirement, discharge, or release from active duty service or control of the Active Army. It establishes standardized policy for preparing and distributing the DD Form 214. It specifies to enter the titles of all AOC's served for at least 1 year in item 11 and include the number of years and months served for each AOC. For the time determination, 16 days or more count as a month. Do not count basic training and advanced individual training. For commissioned officers, also specify the AOC consisting of two numerical digits and one letter.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. She contends she should be credited with serving in AOC 42B for her entire tenure of active service. However, records show she completed the AG Officer Basic Course for AOC 42B on 17 December 1999. It appears she then served in this AOC until the time of her discharge from active duty on 1 September 2009. The guidance for completing item 11 of the DD Form 214 specifies to include the number of years and months served for each AOC and that 16 days or more count as a month.
2. The evidence shows her actual service in AOC 42B covered the period 17 December 1999 to 1 September 2009, a period of 9 years and 9 months calculated as prescribed by the pertinent regulation. Therefore, there is no error regarding the entry in item 11 of her DD Form 214.
3. Therefore, there is no basis for granting the applicant's request.
