THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show award of the:
* Army Achievement Medal (AAM) (6th Award)
* German Armed Forces Parachutist Badge
* German Army Marksmanship Badge in Gold
* Valorous Unit Award (2nd Award)
2. The applicant states his DD Form 214 does not show these awards.
3. The applicant provides:
* six AAM Certificates
* German Armed Forces Parachutist Badge and German Army Marksmanship Badge authorization memoranda
* Valorous Unit Award information from the U.S. Army Human Resources Command (HRC)
* DD Form 214
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant's military records show he enlisted in the Regular Army in pay grade E-2 on 8 November 1990. He completed training and was awarded military occupational specialty 68S (Preventive Medicine Specialist).
2. His Enlisted Record Brief shows he served in Germany from 21 November 2001 to 22 December 2002. It also shows he served with Headquarters Service Company, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, from 13 January 2005 to 19 June 2008.
3. He was honorably retired on 31 December 2010. He was credited with completing 20 years, 1 month, and 23 days of active service with no lost time. He was also credited with 6 years, 5 months, and 20 days of foreign service.
4. His DD Form 214 shows he was awarded or authorized the:
* Iraq Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars
* Meritorious Service Medal
* Army Commendation Medal (8th Award)
* Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award)
* National Defense Service Medal with one bronze service star
* Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal
* Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal
* Global War on Terrorism Service Medal
* Korea Defense Service Medal
* Armed Forces Service Medal
* Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award)
* Army Service Ribbon
* Overseas Service Ribbon (7th Award)
* North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal
* Combat Medical Badge
* Expert Field Medical Badge
* Parachutist Badge
* Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver Wheeled Vehicle Clasp
5. He provided copies of six AAM Certificates for the following:
* meritorious service from 12 December 1990 to 12 December 1991 awarded by Permanent Order Number 3-12, dated 13 January 1992
* meritorious service from 21 October 1995 to 21 October 1996 awarded by Permanent Orders Number 102-02, dated 20 October 1996
* meritorious service from 15 February 1997 to 15 June 1997 awarded by Permanent Order 139-10, dated 19 May 1997
* meritorious service from 18 August 1997 to 9 October 1997 awarded by Permanent Orders Number 209-1, dated 24 November 1997
* exceptionally meritorious service from 23 September 1998 to 1 April 1999 awarded by Permanent Order Number 071-02, dated 12 March 1999
* outstanding performance from 20 November 2002 to 11 June 2003 awarded by Permanent Orders 149-2, dated 29 May 2003
6. He also provided copies of two memoranda, dated 15 October 2002, wherein he was awarded and authorized to accept and wear the following foreign badges:
* German Army Marksmanship Badge in Gold on 10 August 2002
* German Armed Forces Parachutist Badge on 13 September 2002
7. He further provided HRC details for award of the Valorous Unit Award to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, for the periods 1 December 2004 to 30 June 2005 and 25 March 2007 to 20 October 2007.
8. The HRC Military Awards Branch Recently Approved Unit Awards website shows his unit, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, was awarded the Valorous Unit Award for the periods 1 December 2004 to 30 June 2005 and 25 March 2007 to 26 October 2007.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The evidence of record confirms the applicant was awarded six AAM's. Therefore, he is entitled to correction of his DD Form 214 to show these awards.
2. The evidence of record also confirms he was awarded the German Army Marksmanship Badge in Gold and German Armed Forces Parachutist Badge. Therefore, he is entitled to correction of his DD Form 214 to show these foreign awards.
3. The evidence of record further confirms his unit was awarded the Valorous Unit Award (2nd Award). Therefore, he is entitled to correction of his DD Form 214 to show these unit awards.
