THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:
1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).
2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).
THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show the Valorous Unit Award.
2. The applicant states the requested award was authorized after his discharge.
3. The applicant provides Permanent Order 202-20, U.S. Army Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, KY, dated 21 July 2010.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 9 July 1997. He completed training and was awarded military occupational specialty 13F (Fire Support Specialist).
2. His records contain a DA Form 2166-8 (Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) Evaluation Report) that shows he was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment during the period of the report, 1 January 2007 through 31 December 2007.
3. On 2 June 2010, he was honorably discharged. His DD Form 214 shows he completed 12 years, 10 months, and 24 days of net active service, including 3 years and 25 days of foreign service.
4. Item 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) of his DD Form 214 does not show the Valorous Unit Award.
5. Item 18 (Remarks) of his DD Form 214 confirms he was deployed to Iraq from 30 October 2006 to 15 November 2007.
6. Permanent Order 202-20, issued by the U.S. Army Human Resources Command, awarded the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment the Valorous Unit Award for the period 9 December 2006 to 30 September 2007.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
The available evidence shows the applicant's unit in Iraq was awarded the Valorous Unit Award when he was assigned to the unit which is not shown on his DD Form 214; therefore, he is entitled to correction of his DD Form 214 to show this award.
