THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1.  Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2.  Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).


THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1.  The applicant requests the Bronze Star Medal be added to his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty).

2.  The applicant states:

* he didn't receive the actual award until after he had separated from active duty
* he was mailed his copy of the Bronze Star Medal in early 2009

3.  The applicant provides:

* orders for the Bronze Star Medal
* DD Form 214

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1.  The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 15 July 2003.  He served three tours in Iraq as a cryptologic linguist and was released from active duty on 14 July 2007.

2.  His DD Form 214 does not show the Bronze Star Medal as an authorized award.

3.  Permanent Orders 143-037, dated 23 May 2007, show he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement for the period 26 November 2006 to 1 April 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

Permanent orders show the applicant was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.  His DD Form 214 should be corrected to show this medal.
