		IN THE CASE OF:

		BOARD DATE: 8 October 2009

		DOCKET NUMBER: AR20090007181

THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant requests that item 12a (Date Entered AD [Active Duty] This Period) of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) for the period ending 26 April 2006 be corrected.

2. The applicant states that it is a typographical error.

3. The applicant provides a copy of his DD Form 214 for the period ending 26 April 2006 in support of his application.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1. Having prior service in the U.S. Army Reserve, the applicant was ordered to active duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served as a wheeled vehicle mechanic in Kuwait/Iraq and was released from active duty on 26 April 2006.

2. Item 12a of the applicant's DD Form 214 for the period ending 26 April 2006 shows he entered active duty on 15 March 2006. Item 12b (Separation Date This Period) of this DD Form 214 shows he was released from active duty on 26 April 2006. Item 12c (Net Active Service This Period) of this DD Form 214 shows he completed 1 year, 2 months, and 6 days.

3. Records at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) show the applicant entered active duty on 5 February 2005 and was released from active duty on 26 April 2006.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

The evidence of record supports the applicant's contention that item 12a of his DD Form 214 for the period ending 26 April 2006 is incorrect. Since DFAS records show the applicant entered active duty on 5 February 2005, items 12a and 12c of the applicant's DD Form 214 are incorrect. Therefore, item 12a should be corrected to show he entered active duty on 5 February 2005 and item 12c should be corrected to show he completed 1 year, 2 months, and 22 days.
