RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS

	IN THE CASE OF:

	BOARD DATE: 30 October 2007
	DOCKET NUMBER: AR20070012138

I certify that hereinafter is recorded the true and complete record of the proceedings of the Army Board for Correction of Military Records in the case of the above-named individual.

The Board considered the following evidence:

Exhibit A - Application for correction of military records.

Exhibit B - Military Personnel Records (including advisory opinion, if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant requests that item 27 (Type of Separation) on his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) for the period ending 23 January 2007 be corrected.

2. The applicant states that item 27 should read “Release from Active Duty” and not “Release from Active Duty Training.” He served in Afghanistan during this period of active duty.

3. The applicant provides his DD Form 214 for the period ending 23 January 2007 and a cover letter from the Dane County, WI Veterans Service Office.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant’s Army National Guard records are not available.

2. The applicant enlisted in the Army National Guard on or about 7 July 2004. After having had 3 months and 17 days of prior active duty for training, after which he was awarded military occupational specialty 96R (Ground Surveillance Systems Operator), he was ordered to active duty on 29 October 2005 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

3. The applicant was released from active duty on 23 January 2007. Item 27 of his DD Form 214 for the period ending 23 January 2007 erroneously shows he was released from active duty training.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

1. The applicant was ordered to active duty on 29 October 2005 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was released from active duty on 23 January 2007. However, item 23 of his DD Form 214 for the period ending 23 January 2007 erroneously shows he was released from active duty training.

BOARD VOTE:

__cd____ __cad___ ________ GRANT FULL RELIEF

________ ________ ________ GRANT PARTIAL RELIEF

________ ________ ________ GRANT FORMAL HEARING

________ ________ ________ DENY APPLICATION
BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:

The Board determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to warrant a recommendation for relief. As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by:

     a. deleting the entry “RELEASE FROM ACTIVE DUTY TRAINING“ from item 23 of his DD Form 214 for the period ending 23 January 2007; and

     b. adding the entry “RELEASE FROM ACTIVE DUTY” to item 23 of his DD Form 214 for the period ending 23 January 2007.
