      The Board considered the following evidence:

      Exhibit A - Application for correction of military records.

      Exhibit B - Military Personnel Records (including advisory opinion,
if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1.  The applicant requests that his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or
Discharge from Active Duty) be corrected to add the Purple Heart.

2.  The applicant states he was awarded the Purple Heart on 24 January
2006.

3.  The applicant provides Purple Heart orders.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1.  The applicant served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

2.  The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 22 May 2003.  He arrived
in Iraq on 15 August 2005.

3.  Headquarters, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Forward Operating
Base Speicher Permanent Order 072-039D, dated 13 March 2006, awarded the
applicant the Purple Heart for wounds received on 24 January 2006.  He
departed Iraq on 28 January 2006.

4.  The applicant was honorably released from active duty on 31 August
2006.  His DD Form 214 does not show award of the Purple Heart.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

The evidence of record shows the applicant was awarded the Purple Heart.
His DD Form 214 should be amended to add this award.

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:

The Board determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to warrant
a recommendation for relief.  As a result, the Board recommends that the
applicant’s DD Form 214 be amended to add the Purple Heart.
