THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests reconsideration of an earlier request to correct his DD Form 214 (Report of Transfer or Discharge) to show award of the Purple Heart.
2. The applicant states, in effect, that he was wounded in action on 4 April 1967 and was later awarded the Purple Heart at the Letterman General Hospital by a general officer.
3. The applicant provides orders and an award certificate for the Purple Heart and two photographs.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. Incorporated herein by reference are military records which were summarized in the previous consideration of the applicant's case by the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) in Docket Number AR20050013348 on 29 June 2006.
2. The applicant provided a copy of Headquarters, 2d Surgical Hospital (Mobile Army) General Orders Number 32, dated 5 April 1967, which show he received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action on 4 April 1967 in Vietnam. He also provided an award certificate for the Purple Heart and two photographs of him being awarded the Purple Heart.
3. The applicants submissions are new evidence which will be considered by the Board.
4. The applicant was inducted on 6 April 1966. He served as a light weapons infantryman in Vietnam and was released from active duty on 17 January 1968.
5. The applicants DD Form 214 does not show the Purple Heart as an authorized award.

The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Report of Transfer or Discharge) to show award of the Purple Heart. The applicant states he earned the Purple Heart in Vietnam on 5 March 1968 and the award was left off his DD Form 214. Records show the applicant should have discovered the alleged error now under consideration on 24 April 1970; therefore, the time for the applicant to file a request for correction of any error expired on 23 April 1973.
ARMY | BCMR | CY2009 | 20090002474
There also is no evidence in his service personnel records that shows that he was treated for wounds as a result of hostile action in Vietnam. Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) provides, in pertinent part, that the Purple Heart is awarded for a wound sustained as a result of hostile action. There is no evidence in the available records and the applicant has not provided sufficient evidence that shows his injury was a result of hostile action.
ARMY | BCMR | CY2004 | 20040008864C070208
There is no evidence that the applicant was awarded the Purple Heart. In the absence of more conclusive evidence, the applicant is not entitled to award of the Purple Heart or correction of his records to show this decoration. Evidence shows that the applicant’s records contain administrative error which does not require action by the Board.
ARMY | BCMR | CY2006 | 20060011760
The applicant requests, in effect, reconsideration of his earlier request to the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) that he be awarded the Purple Heart. The applicant's new argument, as stated in his request, is that he should be awarded the Purple Heart for a wound sustained in 1967, in Phu Bai, Vietnam, during a mortar attack. However, there is no evidence, and the applicant has provided none, to show that he sustained a wound in 1967, in Vietnam, during a mortar...
ARMY | BCMR | CY2011 | 20110016493
The applicant states: * when he submitted his last application he did not think a lot of information needed to be sent * he assumed his records would show what was needed * he had no idea he was not on the Vietnam Casualty List or that there was no record of him being wounded in combat * the ABCMR Proceedings states he served in Vietnam from 28 August 1967 to 27 March 1968 * he left Vietnam on 10 February 1968 for Drake Hospital and was hospitalized until 27 March 1968 * it's odd that his...
ARMY | BCMR | CY2009 | 20090002460
The applicant's DD Form 214 does not show the Purple Heart, the POW Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, or the Silver Star as authorized awards. There is no evidence of record which shows the applicant was a POW. As a result, the Board recommends denial of so much of the application that pertains to award of the Purple Heart, the POW Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Silver Star, amendment of item 25 on his DD Form 214 to show he completed 35mm Projection training, or amendment of...

RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS IN THE CASE OF: BOARD DATE: 8 March 2007 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20060010171 I certify that hereinafter is recorded the true and complete record of the proceedings of the Army Board for Correction of Military Records in the case of the above-named individual. The applicant participated in two campaigns during his two tours in Vietnam; therefore, he is entitled to correction of his military records to show two bronze service stars to be affixed to his already awarded Vietnam...
ARMY | BCMR | CY2015 | 20150001556
The applicant stated in his previous application: a. His records contain: a. He described these injuries as "superficial" and stated he believed the injuries may have been cause by shrapnel from the explosion.
ARMY | BCMR | CY2007 | 20070005598
Therefore, he is entitled to correction of his records to show this award. Record shows the applicant was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal. Therefore, the Board requests that the CMSD-St. Louis administratively correct the records of the individual concerned to show award of the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, the Marksman Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar (M-14), and one silver service star to be affixed to his already-awarded Vietnam Service Medal.
ARMY | BCMR | CY2006 | 20060014227
Item 26 (Decoration, Medals, Badges, Commendations, Citations and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) of the applicant's DD Form 214 does not show award of the Purple Heart, the "Machete" Bar, or the Panamanian-Pana Jungle Badge. The applicant's records show that he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal. Therefore, the Board determined that the overall merits of this case are insufficient as a basis for correction of the records of the individual concerned to show award of the Purple...
