PROCEEDINGS

         IN THE CASE OF:

         BOARD DATE: 12 August 2003
         DOCKET NUMBER: AR2003086504

I certify that hereinafter is recorded the true and complete record of the proceedings of the Army Board for Correction of Military Records in the case of the above-named individual.

Mr. Carl W. S. Chun Director
Mrs. Nancy L. Amos Analyst

The following members, a quorum, were present:

Mr. Ted S. Kanamine Chairperson
Mr. William D. Powers Member
Mr. Frank C. Jones Member

The applicant and counsel if any, did not appear before the Board.

The Board considered the following evidence:

Exhibit A - Application for correction of military
records
Exhibit B - Military Personnel Records (including
         advisory opinion, if any)

FINDINGS :

1. The applicant has exhausted or the Board has waived the requirement for exhaustion of all administrative remedies afforded by existing law or regulations.

2. The applicant requests, in effect, that his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge) be corrected to show the date he entered the service.

3. The applicant states that it is difficult to prove he entered the service.

4. The applicant’s military records show that he enlisted in the Regular Army on 6 August 1968 for 2 years. He was honorably released from active duty on 5 August 1970.

5. Item 17a (Current Active Service Other Than by Induction, Source of Entry) of the applicant's DD Form 214 erroneously contains the entry, "NA." Item 17c (Date of Entry) erroneously contains the entry, "NA."

CONCLUSIONS:

1. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 6 August 1968 and his DD Form 214 fails to show his enlistment date. His DD Form 214 should be amended to add his date and source of entry.

2. In view of the foregoing, the applicant’s records should be corrected as recommended below.

RECOMMENDATION:

That item 17a of the applicant's DD Form 214 be amended to show the source of his entry, "ENLISTED (First Enlistment)," was checked and that item 17c be amended to show his date of entry as 6 August 1968.

His activation orders, issued by the XX United States Army Corps, specifically state that he was being ordered to active duty for the purpose of training (ACDUTRA).
