2. The applicant requests that his DD Form 214 (Report of Separation) be corrected to show that he entered active duty on 8 August 1953 not 4 February 1955.
3. The applicant states that the entry date shown on his DD Form 214 is the date he was promoted. No action was taken, in 1993, when he asked to have the Army Reserve correct the date.
4. The applicant’s military records show that upon completion of a Reserve Officer Training Corps program he was commissioned a second lieutenant (2LT) in the Army Reserve on 14 June 1953. He was ordered to active duty on 4 August 1953 and was promoted to first lieutenant (1LT) on 4 February 1955. He was released from active duty on 28 May 1955 and transferred to the Reserve.
5. His DD Form 214 erroneously shows he entered active duty on 4 February 1955 as a 2LT. It indicates that he was discharged on 28 May 1955 as a 1LT and that he had 1 year, 9 months, and 25 days of active duty with 1 month and 20 days of other service.
CONCLUSIONS:
1. The Board concurs with the applicant that the date of his entrance onto active duty is incorrectly listed on his DD Form 214 as 4 February 1955.
2. Therefore, the Board finds that it is in the interest of justice to correct this error to reflect the correct date of entrance on active duty as 8 August 1953.
3. In view of the foregoing findings and conclusions, correcting the applicant’s records as recommended below will correct an error.
RECOMMENDATION:
That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected to show that the applicant entered active duty on 8 August 1953.

The applicant requests correction of military records as stated in the application to the Board and as restated herein. APPLICANT STATES : In effect, that he was denied promotion to LTC in the USAR because: 1) there are two dates on his record for appointment as a second lieutenant (2LT), USAR, 14 June 1951, which is the correct one, and 23 October 1952, which caused error in computing promotion eligibility dates; 2) he was not promoted to first lieutenant (1LT), USAR, until 13 May 1955, 47...

The available records do not show any prior enlisted service. The time he spent in a cadet status is not considered active duty nor was he serving as an enlisted member; therefore, he is not eligible for the award of the Army Good Conduct Medal. __________X__________ CHAIRPERSON I certify that herein is recorded the true and complete record of the proceedings of the Army Board for Correction of Military Records in this case.

The applicant requests correction of military records as stated in the application to the Board and as restated herein. APPLICANT REQUESTS: Correction of his military records to reflect sufficient Reserve Component service credit to receive retired pay. For the time that the applicant was appointed an officer in the ARNG, 1 June 1955 through 28 February 1959, only the period of 1 June 1955 through 6 June 1956, is credited with retirement points as 1 year creditable for retired pay at age 60.

Paragraph (a) states, in pertinent part, that officers shall be placed in the promotion zone and shall be considered for promotion to the next higher grade by a promotion board convened under section 14101(a) of this title, far enough in advance of completing the MYIG so that, if the officer is recommended for promotion, the promotion may be effective on or before the date on which the officer will complete those years of service. Paragraph (b) states, in effect, that a RC officer who is...

The applicant, the widow of a deceased former service member (FSM), requests correction of the FSM's DD Form 214 (Report of Separation from the Armed Forces of the United States) to show his rank as a colonel (COL) instead of second lieutenant (2LT). The FSM was appointed in the Army of the United States in the rank of 2LT and he entered active duty on 29 November 1954. Since he held the rank of 2LT at the time he was discharged from the Army his DD Form 214 correctly shows his correct rank.
