         The applicant and counsel if any, did not appear before the Board.

         The Board considered the following evidence:

         Exhibit A - Application for correction of military
records
         Exhibit B - Military Personnel Records (including
         advisory opinion, if any)

FINDINGS :

1. The applicant has exhausted or the Board has waived the requirement for exhaustion of all administrative remedies afforded by existing law or regulations.


2. The applicant requests, in effect, that his Report of Transfer or Discharge, DD Form 214, be amended to add the Meritorious Unit Commendation (MUC).

3. The applicant states the 106th General Hospital was awarded the MUC for the period December 1965 to December 1968. He was assigned to the 106th General Hospital from February 1968 to May 1969.

4. The applicant’s military records show that he enlisted in the Regular Army on 1 June 1966. He completed basic combat training and advanced individual training and was awarded military occupational specialty 91B (Medical Specialist). He served in Vietnam from 19 January 1967 to 5 January 1968. On 15 February 1968, he was reassigned to the 106th General Hospital, U. S. Army Japan. He was separated in Japan on 31 May 1969.

5. Department of the Army Pamphlet 672-3 shows that the 106th General Hospital was awarded the MUC for the period December 1965 – December 1968.

CONCLUSIONS:

1. The evidence of record shows the applicant was assigned to the 106th General Hospital during a period of time that unit was awarded the MUC, making the applicant eligible to wear the MUC as a permanent award.

2. In view of the foregoing, the applicant’s records should be corrected as recommended below.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the applicant’s DD Form 214 be amended to add the Meritorious Unit Commendation.
