RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS
AIR FORCE BOARD FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORDS
IN THE MATTER OF: DOCKET NUMBER: 00-00989
COUNSEL: NONE
HEARING DESIRED: NO
APPLICANT REQUESTS THAT:
His records be corrected to reflect his Military Occupational
Specialty was Aerial Gunner and Service School attendance at Murock
AFB from the fall of 1944 through April 1945 for additional training
as an Aerial Gunner.
APPLICANT CONTENDS THAT:
The reasons the applicant believes the records to be in error or
unjust and the evidence submitted in support of the appeal are at
Exhibit A.
STATEMENT OF FACTS:
Limited documentation was available. Therefore, the facts concerning
the applicant’s Military Occupational Specialty and Service School
attendance could not be verified.
THE BOARD CONCLUDES THAT:
1. The applicant has exhausted all remedies provided by existing law
or regulations.
2. The application was not timely filed; however, it is in the
interest of justice to excuse the failure to timely file.
3. Sufficient relevant evidence has been presented to demonstrate the
existence of probable injustice. We note that the applicant’s
military personnel records were destroyed by fire; therefore, limited
documentation was available. Notwithstanding this, the available
evidence does seem to support that the applicant received training as
an Aerial Gunner. There was insufficient evidence that the applicant
received the advanced training he now requests be reflected in
records. Thus, this portion of his appeal is not favorably
considered. However, we are willing to give him the benefit of doubt
regarding his request that his records be corrected to show that his
Military Occupational Specialty was Aerial Gunner. Accordingly, we
recommend that the applicant’s records be corrected as indicated
below.
THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT:
The pertinent military records of the Department of the Air Force
relating to APPLICANT, be corrected to show that his Military
Occupational Specialty was Aerial Gunner.
The following members of the Board considered this application in
Executive Session on 26 Sep 00, under the provisions of AFI 36-2603:
