BOARD FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORDS

Application for the Correction of
the Coast Guard Record of:

FINAL DECISION
BCMR Docket No. 2002-053

SUMMARY OF THE RECORD

The applicant asked the Board to correct his record to show that he reenlisted on his
10th active duty anniversary, which was September 24, 2001, to receive a Zone B selective
reenlistment bonus (SRB). He alleged that he should have been counseled prior to that date
that he was eligible to receive a Zone B SRB if he reenlisted on his 10th anniversary. He alleged
that he was not counseled and that, if he had been, he would have reenlisted for the SRB. The
applicant’s record contains a 6-year reenlistment contract dated July 20, 1998, and an
administrative entry in his record dated August 26, 1998, which show that he received a Zone B
SRB calculated with a multiple of one-half in consideration for the reenlistment, as authorized
under ALDIST 046/98.

On July 24, 2002, the Chief Counsel of the Coast Guard recommended that the Board
deny the applicant’s request because the applicant already received a Zone B SRB when he
reenlisted for 6 years on July 20, 1998, and members are entitled to just one SRB per zone.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS

Under COMDTINST 7220.33, members are entitled to receive just one SRB per zone.
Members are in Zone B when they have served between 6 and 10 years on active duty. The
applicant was in Zone B on July 20, 1998, and the record indicates that he reenlisted on that day
and received the Zone B SRB authorized for his rating. Accordingly, relief should be denied.

The application of xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, USCG, for correction of his

military record is denied.
