BOARD FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORDS
Final Decision
BCMR No. 2002-003
Application for the Correction of
the Coast Guard Record of:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Date
SUMMARY OF THE RECORD
ULMER, Chair:
The applicant asked that his record be corrected to show that he reenlisted on
September 30, 2001 rather than having done so on July 13, 2001. This correction would entitle
the applicant to receive an SRB (selective reenlistment bonus) for the full 72 months of service
that was promised to him when he reenlisted on July 13, 2001. The applicant was paid an SRB
based on 69 months of service because at the time of his reenlistment on July 13, 2001, the 3
months of previously obligated service that remained from his previous enlistment was
deducted from his SRB payment, as required by regulation.
The Chief Counsel of the Coast Guard recommended that the Board grant relief because
unit personnel incorrectly advised the applicant that he would receive an SRB based on 72
months of service if he reenlisted on July 13, 2001, which was approximately three months
before the end of his September 29, 2001 enlistment. He recommended that the applicant’s
record be corrected to show that he reenlisted on September 30, 2001. The applicant agreed
with this recommendation.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS
The Chief Counsel admitted and the Board finds that the applicant was counseled
incorrectly about the number of months for which he would receive an SRB if he reenlisted on
July 13, 2001. Therefore, the applicant is entitled to the relief requested.
ORDER
The application of XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX USGC, for correction of military record is
granted. His reenlistment contract dated July 13, 2001 shall be corrected to show that he
reenlisted on September 30, 2001 for which he received a Zone A SRB with the appropriate
multiple, pursuant to ALCOAST 127/01. This correction entitles the applicant to an additional
three months of SRB. The Coast Guard shall pay the applicant the amount due him as a result
of this correction.
