THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests his award of the Meritorious Unit Commendation be added to his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty).
2. The applicant states during his last deployment his unit was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation but the award authorization was not finalized until after his release from active duty. He would like to update his DD Form 214 to include this award.
3. The applicant provides copies of U.S. Army Human Resources Command Permanent Order 191-03, a Meritorious Unit Commendation citation, and a Meritorious Unit Commendation certificate.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant, a Regular Army captain, served on active duty from 27 May 2006 through 1 January 2012 with service in Iraq from 19 November 2007 through 18 February 2009 and from 2 March 2010 through 1 March 2011.
2. During his second deployment to Iraq, the applicant served with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
3. U.S. Army Human Resources Command Permanent Order 191-03, dated 10 July 2013, awarded the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division the Meritorious Unit Commendation for their service from 21 March 2010 to 10 March 2011.
4. The applicant's DD Form 214 lists his awards as the Iraq Campaign Medal with four campaign stars, Bronze Star Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Valorous Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), Combat Infantryman Badge, Ranger Tab, and the Air Assault Badge.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicant served in Iraq during the period his unit was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation but was released from active duty prior to the finalization of this award.
2. It is appropriate to correct the applicant's records by adding the Meritorious Unit Commendation to his authorized awards on his DD Form 214.
