		IN THE CASE OF:

		BOARD DATE:	  12 August 2014

		DOCKET NUMBER:  AR20130021887

THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show his military occupational specialty (MOS) in item 11 (Primary Specialty) as 11B (Infantryman), and to show numerous courses he completed in item 14 (Military Education).

2. The applicant states his MOS needs to be added to his DD Form 214, as well as the months he served as an infantryman. He graduated from one station unit training (OSUT) and completed 18 other classes as well.

3. The applicant provides his DD Form 214, DD Form 2586 (Verification of Military Experience and Training), one page titled Summary, two pages titled Army Training Transcript, and 18 separate training certificates.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 11 February 2013. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry Regiment, Fort Benning, GA, for basic training and advanced individual training (AIT) in MOS 11B. The specific dates he was assigned to this unit are unknown.

2. On 15 November 2013, he was honorably retired by reason of temporary disability and placed on the Temporary Disability Retired List (TDRL). The DD Form 214 he was issued shows he completed 9 months and 5 days of creditable active service. His DD Form 214 contains the following entries:

* item 8a (Last Duty Assignment and Major Command) - Reinforcement Holding Unit (RHU), 30th Adjutant General Battalion
* item 11 (Primary Specialty) - None
* item 14 (Military Education) - None

3.  The applicant provides:

   a. A DD Form 2586, dated 1 July 2013, which shows he completed the 3-day Army Training History Course for 11B OSUT in February 2013 at the Reception Battalion, Fort Benning, GA.

	b. He also provides 18 certificates, dated between 17 October and 27 October 2013, which show he completed numerous online courses during that timeframe, such as Human Trafficking, Crowd and Riot Control, Introduction to Maritime Operations, and Counterterrorism. None of these certificates indicate the number of hours or course length associated with each respective certificate.

4. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents), in effect at the time, contained guidance on the preparation of the DD Form 214. It stated:

   a. In item 11 enter the titles of all MOSs served in for at least 1 year and include the number of years and months served. For time determination, 16 days or more count as a month; do not count basic training and AIT.

   b. In item 14 list formal in-service (full-time attendance) training courses successfully completed during the period of service covered by the DD Form 214. This information is to assist the Soldier in job placement and counseling; therefore, do not list training courses for combat skills.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

1. The evidence of record confirms the applicant served on active duty for 9 months and 5 days; however, he did not serve in MOS 11B for at least 1 year after completion of basic training and AIT. In accordance with the governing regulation item 11 of his DD Form 214 was properly annotated and does not warrant correction.

2. With respect to listing all the courses he completed during his active duty service, item 14 of the DD Form 214 is used to list only formal, full-time training courses successfully completed during the period of service covered by the DD Form 214. There are no provisions to add online courses completed to the DD Form 214.

3. In view of the foregoing, he is not entitled to the requested relief.

BOARD VOTE:

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:

The evidence presented does not demonstrate the existence of a probable error or injustice. Therefore, the Board determined that the overall merits of this case are insufficient as a basis for correction of the records of the individual concerned.

She was ordered to and entered on active duty training (ADT) on 30 April 2013. The mere fact she completed training and was awarded MOS 25B does not mean item 18 will show the amount of months she trained for the MOS.
