IN THE CASE OF:
BOARD DATE: 11 September 2012
DOCKET NUMBER: AR20120010565
THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:
1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).
2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).
THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show his service in Iraq.
2. The applicant states his service in Iraq is not shown on his DD Form 214.
3. The applicant provides a DD Form 214.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 11 August 2006 and was awarded military occupational specialty 21B (Combat Engineer) upon completion of initial entry training.
2. The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) confirmed he received hostile fire pay/imminent danger pay (HFP/IDP) and combat zone tax exclusion (CZTE) for service in Kuwait/Iraq from 11 March 2007 through 9 May 2008
(1 year, 1 month, and 29 days).
3. He was discharged on 12 November 2009. Block 12f (Foreign Service) of his DD Form 214 does not show foreign service. Block 18 (Remarks) does not reflect his service in Iraq.
4. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) prescribes the separation documents prepared for Soldiers upon retirement, discharge, or release from active military service or control of the Army. It provides standardized policy for the preparation of the DD Form 214 and states:
a. in block 12f, enter the total amount of foreign service completed during the period covered in block 12c (Net Service This Period); and
b. in block 18 for an active duty Soldier deployed to a foreign country with his or her unit during their continuous period of active service, enter the statement "SERVICE IN (name of country deployed) FROM (inclusive dates for example, YYYYMMDD-YYYYMMDD)."
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicant's contention that his DD Form 214 should be corrected to show his service in Iraq has been carefully reviewed and found to have merit.
2. DFAS records confirm he received HFP/IDP and CZTE from 11 March 2007 through 9 May 2008 (1 year, 1 month, and 29 days). Therefore, there is sufficient evidence to correct block 12f of his DD Form 214 to show the total amount of foreign service he completed during this period of active duty and to correct block 18 of his DD Form 214 to show the dates of his service in Iraq.

Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) states a. The applicant requests correction of her DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show her service in Iraq from 29 October 2003 to 27 February 2004. Based on her service in Kuwait/Iraq in support of OEF/OIF from...
