		BOARD DATE: 4 September 2012

		DOCKET NUMBER: AR20120005106

THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant requests the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal be added to his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty).

2. The applicant states he was on active duty during the period covered by the Global War on Terrorism, but the instructions for the award had not been published so it does not appear on his DD Form 214.

3. The applicant did not provide any additional documentation.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant is a retired Regular Army chaplain, colonel. He last entered on active duty on 10 February 1978 and served continuously until he retired on
31 January 2003.

2. His DD Form 214 does not show the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

3 Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) states the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal is authorized for award to all Soldiers on active duty on or after 11 September 2001 to a date to be determined.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

The available evidence shows he served a qualifying period of service for award of the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. His DD Form 214 should be corrected to show this award.
