		IN THE CASE OF:

		BOARD DATE: 22 September 2011

		DOCKET NUMBER: AR20110005674

THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant requests correction of her deployment dates shown in item 18 (Remarks) of her DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) for the period ending 31 July 2010.

2. The applicant states:

* her deployment dates are incorrect
* she served in Iraq from 20 September 2007 to 13 September 2008

3. The applicant provides:

* deployment orders
* DD Form 214 for the period ending 31 July 2010

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1. Having prior active service, she entered active duty on 22 January 1998. She served as a logistics officer and quartermaster officer. On 31 July 2010, she retired in the rank of major.

2. Item 18 of her DD Form 214 for the period ending 31 July 2010 shows the entry "SERVICE IN IRAQ 20060920-20070921."

3. She provided permanent change of station orders, dated 7 May 2007, for assignment to Kuwait which included a 12-month temporary change of station (TCS) to Iraq/Afghanistan in support of the Army Transition Team mission with a reporting date of 25 September 2007.

4. She also provided orders, dated 14 September 2007, which show she was deployed in a TCS status for assignment to Headquarters, Iraqi Assistance Group, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom effective 20 September 2007.

5. The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) confirmed the applicant received hostile fire/imminent danger pay and combat zone tax exclusion from 21 September 2007 through 11 September 2008 for service in Kuwait.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

1. She contends she served in Iraq from 20 September 2007 to 13 September 2008.

2. Her DD Form 214 for the period ending 31 July 2010 shows she served in Iraq from 20 September 2006 to 21 September 2007. However, DFAS confirms she served in Kuwait/Iraq from 21 September 2007 to 11 September 2008. Therefore, this information is accepted as sufficient evidence with which to correct item 18 of her DD Form 214 to show her deployed service as 20 September 2007 to 11 September 2008.

BOARD VOTE:

________ ________ ________ GRANT FULL RELIEF

____X____ ___X_____ ___X_____ GRANT PARTIAL RELIEF

________ ________ ________ GRANT FORMAL HEARING

________ ________ ________ DENY APPLICATION

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:

1. The Board determined the evidence presented is sufficient to warrant a recommendation for partial relief. As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by deleting the entry "SERVICE IN IRAQ 20060920-20070921" from item 18 of her DD Form 214 for the period ending 31 July 2010 and replacing it with the entry "SERVICE IN KUWAIT/IRAQ FROM 20070921-20080911."

2. The Board further determined the evidence presented Is insufficient to warrant a portion of the requested relief. As a result, the Board recommends denial of so much of the application that pertains to amending item 18 of her DD Form 214 for the period ending 31 July 2010 to show she served in Iraq from 20 September 2007 to 13 September 2008.
