THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) by removing the Combat Medical Badge (CMB).
2. The applicant states, in effect, that he was never a medic and that he was not officially awarded the CMB.
3. The applicant provides a DD Form 214 for the period ending 31 January 2008 in support of this application.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant's military records show he enlisted in the Army National Guard on 30 April 1991. He was awarded several military occupational specialties (MOSs). However, his available record failed to show he was awarded or held a medical MOS. Item 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Commendations, Citations and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) of the applicants DD Form 214 for the period 30 September 2006 to 31 January 2008 contains the entry "Combat Medical Badge-1."
2. A search of the applicant's interactive Personnel Electronic Records Management System (iPERMS) also failed to reveal any evidence that he held a medical MOS or that he was awarded the CMB.
3. Army Regulation 600-8-22 provides that the CMB is awarded to medical department personnel (colonels and below) who are assigned or attached to a medical unit of company or smaller size that is organic to an infantry unit of brigade, regimental or smaller size which is engaged in active ground combat. Battle participation credit is not sufficient; the infantry unit must have been in contact with the enemy.
4. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) is a synopsis of the Soldier's most recent period of continuous active duty service. It provides a brief, clear-cut record of active service at the time of release from active duty or discharge.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. There is no evidence to show the applicant held a medical MOS or that he was assigned or attached to a medical unit of company or smaller size that was organic to an infantry unit of brigade, regimental or smaller size when the unit engaged in active ground combat.
2. There is also no evidence available to show the applicant was officially awarded the CMB. Therefore, it would be appropriate to delete the "Combat Medical Badge-1" from item 13 of his DD Form 214 that was issued on 31 January 2008.
