THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests that items 4a (Grade, Rate, or Rank) and 4b (Pay Grade) on his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) for the period ending 17 May 2007 be corrected to show sergeant (SGT)/
E-5 instead of specialist (SPC)/E-4.
2. The applicant states that during his redeployment through Fort Bragg, North Carolina his promotion orders were not with his out processing documents.
3. The applicant provides promotion orders, dated 26 September 2006.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. Having prior inactive service, the applicant was ordered to active duty on
28 February 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
2. Orders, dated 26 September 2006, show the applicant was promoted to sergeant effective 1 October 2006.
3. On 17 May 2007, the applicant was released from active duty.
4. Item 4a on the applicants DD Form 214 for the period ending 17 May 2007 shows the entry, SPC [specialist]. Item 4b on this DD Form 214 shows the entry, E04. Item 12h (Effective Date of Pay Grade) on this DD Form 214 shows the entry, 1998 05 20.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
Orders show the applicant was promoted from SPC to SGT effective 1 October 2006. Therefore, items 4a, 4b, and 12h on his DD Form 214 for the period ending 17 May 2007 should be corrected accordingly.

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:
The Board determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to warrant a recommendation for relief. As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by:
a. deleting the entries in items 4a, 4b, and 12h on his DD Form 214 for the period ending 17 May 2007;
b. adding the entry, SGT in item 4a on this DD Form 214;
c. adding the entry, E5 in item 4b on this DD Form 214; and
d. adding the entry, 2006 10 01 in item 12h on this DD Form 214.
