The Board noted that the applicant’s WD AGO Form 53-55 shows he was authorized the Bronze Star Medal by Headquarters, 35th Infantry Division, in 1945. Evidence of record shows the applicant signed his WD AGO Form 53-55 on 27 July 1945 attesting to the fact that his organization was Headquarters Company, 654th Tank Destroyer Battalion. Therefore, the applicant is entitled to correction of his military records to show award of the Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp.

A review of hospital admission data in the SGO files did not reveal any records indicating the FSM received a shrapnel wound to his knee or that he was otherwise wounded as a result of enemy action. The newspaper clipping shows the FSM was entitled to wear the insignia for the Meritorious Service Unit Plaque (later renamed the Meritorious Unit Commendation (MUC)) and was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, and five battle stars. The applicants military records are not available to the Board for review. The applicant contends that he received shrapnel wounds from enemy artillery shell explosions that seared his back during combat operations on or about 5 January 1945. Evidence shows that the applicants records contain administrative error, which does not require action by the Board.

Therefore, the FSM is entitled to correction of his WD AGO Form 53-55 to show award of the Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp.

Therefore, there is sufficient evidence that he is entitled to award of the Combat Infantryman Badge and correction of his records to show this award. As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by awarding the FSM the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Star Medal based...
