THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests reconsideration of his earlier request for correction of his Enlisted Record and Report of Separation Honorable Discharge (WD AGO Form 53-55) to show award of the Purple Heart. 2. The applicant states that he found more evidence and asks for reconsideration. 3. The applicant provides a copy of a newspaper clipping and a certificate from Headquarters, 35th Infantry Regiment dated 12 December 1945. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. Incorporated herein by reference are military records which were summarized in the previous consideration of the applicant's case by the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) in Docket Number AR20060006928 on 31 October 2006. 2. On 12 December 1945, the Personnel Officer, 55th Infantry Regiment certified that the applicant was authorized to wear the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal. He also certified that the applicant had been slightly wounded in action on 20 May 1945 near Balete Pass. 3. A newspaper item, date and issue unknown, reported that the applicant, an assistant squad leader in a rifle platoon of the 35th Infantry Regiment had been promoted to sergeant. The article went on to say that was entitled to wear the Combat Infantryman Badge, and that he had received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action, had recovered and returned to his veteran unit. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: 1. The additional evidence provided by the applicant is convincingly sufficient to support his contention that he was wounded in action, received medical treatment and had received the Purple Heart. 2. Therefore, the applicant’s request to correct his records to show that he was awarded the Purple Heart should be granted.
