THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests correction of her Certificate of Release or discharge from Active Duty (DD Form 214) to show her foreign service and to add her awards and decorations.
2. The applicant states, in effect, that she served overseas and earned appropriate awards and decorations for this service.
3. The applicant provides a copy of her DD Form 214 Worksheet (DD form 214WS) and a copy of her deployment history.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. On 7 June 2001, the applicant enlisted in the Regular Army. She completed her initial training and was awarded military occupational specialty 92G1O (Food Service Specialist).
2. On 21 November 2001, the applicant was assigned for duty with the 10th Engineer Battalion, Fort Stewart, Georgia.
3. The Service Member Deployment History Outprocessing Verification for the period from 15 to 30 November 2004, shows that she deployed with this unit in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom during the period from 26 March to
10 August 2003.
4. On 11 November 2004, the applicant was honorably discharged under the provisions of Army Regulation 635-200, paragraph 5-8, for parenthood. She had attained the rank of specialist, pay grade E4, and had completed 3 years,
5 months and 5 days of creditable active duty.
5. Item 12f (Foreign Service) of the applicants DD Form 214 indicates no credit for any foreign service.
6. Item 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations, and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) of the applicants DD Form 214, shows her awards as the Presidential Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Army Lapel Button. It does not show award of the Iraq Campaign Medal.
6. Army Regulation 600-8-22 states that individuals authorized the Iraq Campaign Medal must have served in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). The area of eligibility encompasses all land area of the country of Iraq, and the contiguous water area out to 12 nautical miles, and all air spaces above the land area of Iraq and above the contiguous water area out to 12 nautical miles. The Iraq Campaign Medal period of eligibility is on or after 19 March 2003 to a future date to be determined by the Secretary of Defense or the cessation of OIF. Service members qualified for the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal by reasons of service between 19 March 2003 and 28 February 2005, in an area for which the Iraq Campaign Medal was subsequently authorized, will
remain qualified for that medal. Upon application, any such service member may
be awarded the Iraq Campaign Medal in lieu of the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal for such service. No service member will be entitled to both medals for the same act, achievement or period of service.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The evidence clearly shows that the applicant served overseas in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom during a qualifying period for award of the Iraq campaign Medal. Therefore, her records should be corrected to show this award.
2. Furthermore, the evidence shows that the applicant served overseas from
26 March to 10 August 2003. Therefore her records should be corrected to show this service.

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:
The Board determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to warrant a recommendation for relief. As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by:
a. showing, that in addition to the awards shown on her DD Form 214, that her awards include the Iraq Campaign Medal; and
b. showing in item 12f of her DD Form 214 that she served overseas for a period of 4 months and 25 days.
