      The Board considered the following evidence:

      Exhibit A - Application for correction of military records.

      Exhibit B - Military Personnel Records (including advisory opinion,
if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1.  The applicant requests award of the Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM).

2.  The applicant states that he was awarded the ARCOM but, it was not
placed on his DD Form 214.

3.  The applicant provides a copy of his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the
United States Report of Transfer or Discharge) and ARCOM certificate with
orders.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1.  The applicant’s record shows that he enlisted in the Army on 5 June
1963 for a period of 4 years.  He served as a light weapons infantryman in
the Republic of Vietnam from 6 January 1966 to 6 December 1966.  He was
honorably discharged on 2 June 1967.

2.  The applicant provided a copy of General Orders Number 1656, dated
   28 November 1966, and his certificate awarding him the ARCOM for
meritorious service in connection with military operations against hostile
force from               19 January 1966 to 28 November 1966.

3.  Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) provides that the Army
Commendation Medal may be awarded to any member of the Armed Forces of the
United States who, while serving in any capacity with the Army after
6 December 1941, distinguished himself or herself by heroism, meritorious
achievement or meritorious service.  As with all personal decorations,
formal recommendations, approval through the chain of command, and
announcement in orders are required.

 DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

Orders and certificate verify that the applicant is entitled to correction
of his records to show award of the ARCOM.

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:

The Board determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to warrant

Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by
showing award of the ARCOM.
