2. The applicant requests that his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge), dated 2 March 1970, be corrected by deleting the phrase "ORDERED TO ACDUTRA 1 YR 6 MOS" in Block 17a, and by showing that he was order to active duty.
3. The applicant states that he was not ordered to active duty for training (ACDUTRA) as his DD Form 214 indicates; he was ordered to active duty. In support of his request, he provides a copy of his DD Form 214 and copies of orders showing that the Kansas Army National Guard involuntarily ordered him to active duty.
4. The applicant’s military records were not available. Records provided by the applicant show that he enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guard on 12 January 1966. On 8 August 1968, he was involuntarily ordered to active duty for 18 months. He served on active duty from 10 September 1968 to 2 March 1970.
5. Block 17a (Source of Entry) of his DD Form 214 states "OTHER - ORDERED TO ACDUTRA 1 YR 6 MOS."
6. Army Regulation 635-5, Separation Documents, then in effect, states "If the enlisted person was ordered or called to active duty from Reserve component, check "other" and enter "Ordered from ARNGUS" or, if ordered to active duty for training, enter "Ordered to ACDUTRA."
CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicant's involuntary order to active duty was not for the purpose of training (i.e., ACDUTRA). Therefore, Block 17a of his DD Form 214 should reflect "OTHER [Block Check] - ORDERED FROM ARNGUS."
2. In view of the foregoing, the applicant’s records should be corrected as recommended below.
RECOMMENDATION:
That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by issuing to the individual concerned a DD Form 215 (Correction to DD Form 214):
a. Deleting from Block 17a, "ORDERED TO ACDUTRA;" and
b. Inserting in Block 17a, " ORDERED FROM ARNGUS."

This DD Form 214 shows the applicant was ordered to Active Duty for Training (ACDUTRA) for the period 3 April 1965 through 1 October 1965. Evidence of record shows the applicant already held the MOS 76D20 when he was involuntarily ordered to active duty. Therefore, the applicant is entitled to correction of his DD Form 214, in item 17a, to show he was on active duty for the period 26 August 1968 through 6 February 1970.

The applicant requests, in effect, that item 17a (Current Active Service Other than by Induction) of his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge) that was issued on 24 September 1969 be corrected to show that he was ordered to active duty (AD) instead of ordered to active duty for training (ACDUTRA). The applicant essentially states that his DD Form 214 that was issued on 24 September 1969, which will simply be referred to as his second DD Form 214...

The applicant's military service records contain a DD Form 214, with an effective date of 20 October 1969. The applicant contends, in effect, that his DD Form 214, with an effective date of 20 October 1969, should be corrected to show he was ordered to active duty rather than ordered to active duty for training. However, the evidence of record shows that this service is not accurately recorded on the applicant's DD Form 214, with an effective date of 20 October 1969.

Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). The applicant states his DD Form 214 shows he was ordered to active duty for training (ACDUTRA) on 4 September 1968. The applicant contends that item 17 of his DD Form 214 should be corrected because he was ordered to active duty and not "Ordered to ACDUTRA."

His DD Form 47 (Record of Induction) shows he was inducted into the Army on 17 March 1970. The evidence of record shows the applicant was inducted into the Army on 17 March 1970. The Board determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to warrant a recommendation for partial relief and to excuse failure to timely file.

The applicant requests, in effect, that the entry in item 17a (Current Active Service Other Than by Induction/Source of Entry) on his DD Form 214 (Report of Transfer or Discharge) for the period ending 14 July 1969 be corrected. This provision of law also allows the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) to excuse an applicants failure to timely file within the 3-year statute of limitations if the ABCMR determines it would be in the interest of justice to do so. DISCUSSION...

The applicant requests that his report of separation (DD Form 214) be corrected to reflect that the time he served at Fort Ord, California, was not for training, but was active duty service. He was ordered to active duty for training (ACDUTRA) for 6 months for the period of 6 March to 5 September 1958 and was transferred to Fort Sill to attend the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course (FAOBC), with a report date of 10 March 1958. Accordingly, the entire 6 months he served on active duty was...

(h) Item 30: Enter "This abbreviated form issued to Army National Guard members per appendix A, this AR [Army Regulation]" on all abbreviated DD Forms 214 issued. Noncontinuous periods of active duty are summarized on separate DD Forms 214; therefore, there is no basis for granting the applicant's request to amend his existing DD Form 214 to include the second period of activation from 7 April 1968 to 11 April 1968. (d) Item 17a: "Other" block will be checked and enter "call Executive...

His activation orders, issued by the XX United States Army Corps, specifically state that he was being ordered to active duty for the purpose of training (ACDUTRA). Again the orders specifically state the applicant was being ordered to active duty for the purpose of training. It is clear, based on the various documents which ordered the applicant to active duty, that his final period of active service, 28 September 1968 through 27 April 1969, was not for the purpose of training but rather...

The applicant's military service records are not available to the Board for review. The applicant signed the document verifying the accuracy of the information recorded on the DD Form 214. c. Based on the above and the available evidence of record, it is concluded that the DD Form 214 correctly shows the applicant's active duty service during this period (emphasis added) and rank/grade at the time he was released from active duty. As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of...
