APPLICANT STATES: That he received no awards, such as a cold war medal, or a medal for Grenada or the Gulf War.
EVIDENCE OF RECORD: The applicant's military records show:
The applicant enlisted in the Army for four years on 14 September 1982 and served with Company C, 160th Aviation Battalion, where he was promoted to pay grade E-4 on 1 July 1984. On 30 July 1984 the applicant, then a member of Task Force 160 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, extended his enlistment for 13 months. The applicant’s Personnel Qualification Record shows that he was reassigned to Italy, serving with the 167th Signal Company. He returned to the United States and was released from active duty at Fort Dix, New Jersey, on 9 October 1987 and assigned to the Army Reserve Control Group (Reinforcement). He was subsequently discharged from the Army Reserve Control Group.
On 31 August 1988 the applicant reenlisted in the Army for five years. He was assigned to the 11th Field Artillery Detachment in Italy, and in April 1992 to Company E, 502nd Aviation Regiment in Italy. The applicant was released from active duty in Italy in the grade of E-4 as a result of the Army qualitative retention program on 30 September 1992. He received separation pay in the amount of $10,601.37.
The applicant’s DD Form 214 reflect two awards of the Army Achievement Medal, two awards of the Army Good Conduct Medal, two awards of the Overseas Service Ribbon; an award of the Army Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Assault Badge, the Driver/Mechanic Badge, and the Sharpshooter Qualification Badge with rifle bar.
The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal is awarded to soldiers who participated in operations in Grenada from 23 October 1983 to 21 November 1983.
The Southwest Asia Service Medal is awarded to soldiers who served in Southwest Asia on or after 2 August 1990 to 30 November 1995.
A Kuwait Liberation Medal awarded by the Government of Saudi Arabia was approved on 3 January 1992 and is awarded to members of the Armed Forces of the United States who participated in the Persian Gulf War between 17 January 1991 and 28 February 1991.
A Kuwait Liberation Medal was also awarded by the Government of Kuwait, was approved on 9 November 1995, and is awarded to members of the Armed Forces of the United States who participated in the Persian Gulf War between 2 August 1990 and 31 August 1993.
There is no decoration or award titled, the “cold war medal.”
DISCUSSION: Considering all the evidence, allegations, and information presented by the applicant, together with the evidence of record, applicable law and regulations, it is concluded:
1. There is no evidence, nor has the applicant provided any, to show that he is entitled to any awards other than those shown on his DD Form 214. There is insufficient evidence to show that the applicant was assigned to a unit that was awarded a citation or a campaign medal.
2. The applicant has submitted neither probative evidence nor a convincing argument in support of his request.
3. In order to justify correction of a military record the applicant must show to the satisfaction of the Board, or it must otherwise satisfactorily appear, that the record is in error or unjust. The applicant has failed to submit evidence that would satisfy that requirement.
4. In view of the foregoing, there is no basis for granting the applicant's request.
DETERMINATION: The applicant has failed to submit sufficient relevant evidence to demonstrate the existence of probable error or injustice.
