         The applicant and counsel if any, did not appear before the Board.

         The Board considered the following evidence:

         Exhibit A - Application for correction of military
records
         Exhibit B - Military Personnel Records (including
         advisory opinion, if any)

FINDINGS :

1. The applicant has exhausted or the Board has waived the requirement for exhaustion of all administrative remedies afforded by existing law or regulations.


2. The applicant requests that his Report of Transfer or Discharge, DD Form 214, be amended to add the Silver Star.

3. The applicant states that he was awarded the Silver Star in a ceremony at Fort Riley, KS in 1971. When he was discharged he was told it would be added at a later date but it never was.

4. The applicant’s military records show that he entered active duty as a commissioned officer on 6 June 1962.

5. The applicant was awarded the Silver Star on Department of the Army General Orders 31 dated 1 July 1971 for gallantry in action in Vietnam on 2 July 1967.

6. The applicant separated on 1 June 1971. The Silver Star is not listed on his DD Form 214.

CONCLUSIONS:

1. The evidence of record shows the applicant was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action on 2 July 1967.

2. In view of the foregoing, the applicant’s records should be corrected as recommended below.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the applicant’s DD Form 214 be amended to add the Silver Star.
