2. The applicant requests in effect, that his records be corrected to show that he served in Vietnam for a longer period than is currently reflected on his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge).
3. The applicant states in effect, that his DD Form 214 incorrectly reflects that he served in Vietnam for 6 months and 20 days. He asserts that he was in Vietnam from January to November 1966, a period of 11 months.
4. The applicant’s military records show that he was inducted on 7 December 1964 and trained as a clerk typist.
5. His DD Form 214, item 24c (Foreign and/or Sea Service) reflects that he was assigned to United Stated Army Pacific (USARPAC) for 6 months and 20 days.
6. His DA Form 20 (Enlisted Qualification Records) indicates that he served in USARPAC – Hawaii from 4 May 1965 to 3 January 1966 and that he served in USARPAC - Vietnam from 4 January 1966 to 30 November 1966. However, orders reflect that on 25 November 1966 he was assigned to Fort Dix, NJ indicating that he departed Vietnam no later than 24 November 1966.
7. On 26 November 1966, the applicant was transferred to the United States Army Reserve, his character of service was honorable, and he had achieved the grade of E-4.
CONCLUSIONS:
1. The available records are sufficient for the Board to conclude that the applicant served two assignments within USARPAC: Hawaii from 4 May 1965 to 3 January 1966, a period of 8 months, and Vietnam from 4 January 1966 to 24 November 1966, a period of 10 months 21 days. His total time served in USARPAC was 1 year, 6 months, and 21 days. It would be appropriate to correct his records to indicate this information.
2. In view of the foregoing, the applicant’s records should be corrected as recommended below.
RECOMMENDATION:
That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by showing he served in USARPAC for the period of 1 year, 6 months, and 21 days.

The applicant requests that his records be corrected to reflect award of the Silver Star and Purple Heart. The applicant served an initial tour of duty in Vietnam between October 1967 and February 1968. The evidence also confirms the applicant was wounded as a result of hostile action on 8 February 1968 and he is, therefore, entitled to an award of the Purple Heart.

However, the Board is only able to confirm his entitlement to one of these awards. By regulation, in order to award the PH a member must have been wounded in action, must have been treated for the wound by military medical personnel, and this treatment must have been made a matter of official record. That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case for the individual concerned be corrected by: awarding him the Purple Heart, for being wounded in action on 26 May 1966,...

The applicant requests that his DD Form 214 (Report of Transfer or Discharge) show that he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal with "V" device, and the Army Commendation Medal. The dates on the certificate showing award of the Army Commendation Medal were apparently prepared based on an assumption by administrative personnel that he served a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam. The Board determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to warrant a recommendation for...

The applicant states that he would be enrolled in a higher priority group by the VA if his DD Form 214 (Report of Transfer or Discharge) showed that he was awarded the Purple Heart.
