2. The applicant requests, on behalf of her deceased husband, the former service member (FSM), the issue of all awards to which he was entitled.
3. The applicant makes no further statement or request.
4. The FSM’s military records show that he enlisted in the Army on 26 May 1950 and was trained as an infantryman, military occupational specialty (MOS) 11B, and through a series of reenlistments, remained on active duty until his retirement on 30 April 1972 in the grade of sergeant first class with over 21 years and 9 months of active Federal service. During his career, he served overseas assignments in Korea (twice), where he was a prisoner of war (POW), Germany twice, and Vietnam twice. He died on 19 February 1980.

The FSM’s Official Military Personnel File contains orders and/or entries showing that he is entitled to or has been awarded the following decorations: the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, the Good Conduct Medal with 5 Bronze Loops, the National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, the Korean Service Medal with 1 Silver and 4 Bronze Service Stars, the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960), the United Nations Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge 2nd award, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
6. The record shows that the FSM was a POW in Korea from 28 November 1950 to 8 August 1953; however, there is no evidence that he was awarded the POW Medal for his captivity.
CONCLUSIONS:
1. The evidence of record shows that the FSM is entitled to all of the awards enumerated in paragraphs 5 and 6 above. It would be appropriate therefore to issue all of these awards to the applicant.
2. In view of the foregoing, the applicant’s records should be corrected as recommended below.
RECOMMENDATION:
That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by showing that the individual concerned was awarded:
a. the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Good Conduct Medal with 5 Bronze Loops, the National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, the Korean Service Medal with 1 Silver and 4 Bronze Service Stars, the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960), the United Nations Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge 2nd award, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the POW Medal; and
b. issuing to the applicant, all of the awards noted above.
