APPLICANT REQUESTS: That Block 30, Remarks, on his DD Form 214, Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge, be corrected to reflect that he has 6 weeks of Vietnam service.
APPLICANT STATES: In effect, that while serving as a courier officer at the US Army Courier Station, Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands (Japan), during the months of May, June, or July 1969, he was assigned temporary duty (TDY) for 6 weeks as a courier at the US Army Courier Station, Republic of Vietnam (RVN). He adds that he has no proof of this TDY in the RVN.
EVIDENCE OF RECORD: The applicant's military records show:
The applicant was appointed a Reserve commissioned officer in the US Army Reserve (USAR) in the grade of second lieutenant/O-1 from the Senior Reserve Officers Training Corps program on 31 August 1968. On 4 October 1968, the applicant was ordered to active duty from the USAR. Following completion of all military training, he was awarded military occupational specialty 2120, Administrative Officer, and assigned to the US Army Courier Station, Okinawa, for his first permanent duty station. He served on Okinawa from 18 January 1969 to 29 July 1970. He was then reassigned to the Transfer Station, Oakland Army Base, Oakland, California for separation processing.
On 27 September 1970, he was honorably released from active duty and returned to the USAR Control Group/Annual Training. He had 2 years and 27 days of creditable service. His DD Form 214 reflects the following in Block 30, "RVN: NONE."
Army Regulation 635-5 governs the preparation of DD Form 214. It indicates that Block 30, Remarks, of that form should be used to complete entries too long for their respective blocks. Block 30 is also the appropriate place to indicate Indochina and Korea service on or after 5 August 1964. RVN service is reflected by entering the inclusive dates of service.
DISCUSSION: Considering all the evidence, allegations, and information presented by the applicant, together with the evidence of record, applicable law and regulations, it is concluded:
1. In order to justify correction of a military record, the applicant must show to the satisfaction of the Board, or it must otherwise satisfactorily appear, that the record is in error or unjust. The applicant has failed to submit evidence that would satisfy this requirement.
2. The Board carefully reviewed the applicant’s record of service; however, there is no evidence of record to confirm that the applicant had a 6-week TDY assignment in the RVN. Therefore, his DD Form 214 correctly reflects no service in the RVN.
3. In view of the foregoing, there is no basis for granting the applicant's request.
DETERMINATION: The applicant has failed to submit sufficient relevant evidence to demonstrate the existence of probable error or injustice.

Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). The applicant states he was in the RVN but his DD Form 214 does not show his RVN service. Army Regulation 635-5 states RVN service is only shown on the DD Form 214 when the individual is assigned to an organization in RVN.

The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Report of Transfer or Discharge) to show a temporary duty (TDY) assignment in Vietnam. Item 33 (Appointments and Reductions) of the applicant's DA Form 20 shows he was appointed to the temporary rank of SP5, effective 13 December 1968. Although he provided unit orders which show he was appointed as an acting NCO to the grade of SGT on 11 July 1969, the entry in item 33 of his DA Form 20 shows his appointed grade to SGT was lined out.

The applicant requests, in effect, on two separate applications, that his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge), item 30 (Remarks) be corrected to show he was charged only once for excess leave. He also states that item 25 (Education and Training Completed), shows the entry "Korea (NCO Academy)." Because the ABCMR considers individual applications and decides cases on the evidence, and because it is not an investigative body, and because the ABCMR...

The applicant states, in effect: * he was sent to Vietnam on TDY in early December 1971 * this service was not reflected on his DD Form 214 * TDY may have been viewed as trivial at the time, but this is not the case today * he requests the Board to note his December 1971 sub-voucher initially showed the payment of hostile fire pay (HFP); it was taken away from him when he was at Oakland Army Base...

The applicant's military service records contain a DA Form 20 (Enlisted Qualification Record): a. The applicant contends, in effect, that his military service records should be corrected to show that he served in the RVN for 6 months in 1966 and 1967 because the TDY orders that were approved by the Pentagon for the classified mission in the RVN were among the military records destroyed in the fire at the National Personnel Records Center in 1973. The evidence of record shows that the...

The applicant requests, in effect, that his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge) be corrected to show that he served in Vietnam between 1969 and 1970. The applicant's military records show that he was inducted into the Army of the United States on 15 May 1968. The evidence of record clearly shows that the applicant was paid hostile fire pay for performing TDY in Vietnam between September 1969 and March 1970.

The applicant requests reconsideration of his request for correction of records to show he performed temporary duty (TDY) in the Republic of Vietnam (RVN) during the period 8 September 1966 to 20 December 1966. The applicant's request for correction of his records to show he performed TDY in the RVN during the period 8 September 1966 to 20 December 1966 was carefully reconsidered. However, it would be appropriate at this time to correct his records to show this period of foreign service in...
