2. The applicant requests, in effect, correction of her military records to show that she enlisted for a term of 5 years.

3. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 1 August 1997. The DD Form 4/1 shows that she enlisted for 8 years. Additional documents signed by the applicant and the enlistment counselor indicate enlistment for 5 years.

4. In an advisory opinion to the Board, the Total Army Personnel Command (PERSCOM) advised that the DD Form 4/1 incorrectly shows enlistment for 8 years. PERSCOM recommended approval of the applicant’s request to show that she enlisted for 5 years.

CONCLUSIONS:

1. Based on the evidence of record, it appears that it was the applicant’s intent to enlist in the Regular Army for a period of 5 years. However, an error was made at the time of her enlistment.

2. In view of the foregoing, it would be appropriate and just to correct the applicant’s records as recommended below.

RECOMMENDATION:

That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by amending the DD Form 4/1 to show that she enlisted for 5 years.

BOARD VOTE:

                       GRANT AS STATED IN RECOMMENDATION

                       GRANT FORMAL HEARING
